Bournemouth, United Kingdom OnBuy Full time

OnBuy are on a mission of being the best choice for every customer, everywhere. We have recently been named as Europe’s number one fastest-growing eCommerce company by the Financial Times. An achievement we are very proud of, but we don't let that go to our head. We are all laser focused on our mission and understand the huge joint effort ahead of us needed to succeed.

We are a team of driven and motivated people who thrive when working at pace. To succeed at OnBuy you need to take charge and fully own your responsibilities, rolling your sleeves up when needed to 'get it done'. Working at OnBuy you are surrounded by so much opportunity, but you must possess the ability to stay focused and prioritise ruthlessly. Most importantly, you will thrive in an ever-changing environment as we are constantly evolving.

At OnBuy, you're not just a number or another cog in a machine. We are creating something really special and you have the opportunity to affect meaningful change, have your voice heard. We are a close team, who have the opportunity to learn and grow as OnBuy evolves. We work in a flexible way, meaning we can prioritise our health and relationships, but when we are working, we graft.

**Why are we introducing a Head of Risk?**
As our platform expands and our user base grows, we recognise the need for a dedicated Head of Risk to minimise losses associated with both seller and buyer risk. This critical role will help ensure a safe and trustworthy environment for all participants on our platform.

**What will the Head of Risk be responsible for?**

As Head of Risk, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential risks on our online marketplace. Your primary focus will be to develop and implement strategies to minimise losses and protect the integrity of our platform. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including customer support, seller support, business intelligence, legal, and finance to create and enforce policies and procedures that promote risk reduction.
- Minimise financial losses to OnBuy, and improve experiences of all marketplace users as a result.
- Lead a small team of risk officers and risk analysts, setting the standards for the team.
- Risk assessment: Conduct evaluations of seller and buyer risk factors including fraud, compliance and reputational risks.
- Develop and implement effective risk mitigation strategies, policies, and procedures to minimise losses associated with seller and buyer risk.
- Fraud Detection and Prevention: Utilise data analytics to proactively identify and prevent fraudulent activities. Collaborate with the technology team to implement and improve fraud detection systems. Drive through business change.
- Working closely with our Legal team, ensure compliance with the latest industry regulations. Develop and enforce policies that align with these requirements.
- Monitor and report key risk metrics back to the business.
- Audit key processes (such as seller onboarding) to ensure compliance with these processes.
- Oversee the product & trademark violations processes, working closely with other teams to ensure that products that violate our policies are swiftly identified and appropriate actions are taken.
- Work closely with external partners, such as payment processors, where required.

**Requirements**:

- Prior experience in risk management, preferably in an online marketplace is highly desirable.
- Must have experience in leading risk management initiatives (from concept through to implementation), developing risk policies, and implementing risk mitigation measures is advantageous.
- You should have a deep understanding of risk management principles, methodologies, and best practices.
- Experience in assessing and managing risks in an online marketplace environment, including fraud detection and prevention, is essential.
- A solid understanding of the online marketplace industry is highly adventitious. You should be well-versed in the unique risks associated with online transactions, such as payment fraud.
- Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills are essential to effectively manage risk mitigation strategies and collaborate with other stakeholders.
- You should possess strong analytical skills to identify potential risks, analyse data, and develop risk assessment models. The ability to think critically, anticipate emerging risks, and propose effective solutions is crucial.
- Effective communication is vital in this role. You should be able to clearly communicate complex risk-related concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is often required to implement risk management strategies.
- Online marketplaces operate in a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment. Being adaptable to change, comfortable with ambiguity, and resilient in the face of challenges are important qualities for success in this role.
