**Job summary**:
The Food and Drink Export Council is a new initiative that will harness expertise and resource from Government and industry across the UK in a collective endeavour to increase agriculture, food and drink exports. The Council will strongly influence the Department for Business and Trade’s (DBT) agriculture, food and drink strategy. The Council will provide advice to industry and Government to help drive increased exports from across the whole of the UK, including all sizes and locations of businesses, type of product and level of exporting experience. It will:

- Identify areas where sharing of expertise, information, funding, investment or resources across the UK or between Governments and industry, could benefit agriculture, food and drink exports.
- Develop and deliver a long-term strategic plan for Governments and industry across all of the UK to take advantage of industry’s untapped potential and drive sustained growth in agriculture, food and drink exports.
- Support an increase in the sector’s export capability and ambition, and identify the support and skills needed for businesses to trade successfully.
- Support existing market access work, to identify and prioritise market access opportunities and removal/reduction of SPS and TBT barriers (outside of broader preferential trade negotiations) that constrain export growth.
- Drive a data-led approach to UK agriculture, food and drink exports and market prioritisation, identifying and analysing current and forecasted demand for UK products and seeking to systematically match a UK offer to these opportunities.
- Ensure effective showcasing of UK strengths and the diversity and quality of the UK food offer to international audiences to meet that demand.
- Ensure the successful use of relevant UK and devolved domestic/international exports branding to meet the varying needs of the agriculture, food and drink sector, in all parts of the UK.

You will support DBT’s secretariat work to manage the Council. Including forward planning of Council operations, and regular communications with members, you will make sure the Council runs effectively, supporting an HEO and EO to deliver meetings and manage membership effectively, ensuring that Council operations work seamlessly. You will lead DBT’s implementation of Council objectives on building export capability and showcasing the UK’s sector strengths and diversity through DBT marketing teams. You will support the Export Council’s research programmes, including drafting papers for the Council.

This role offers the opportunity to develop strategic thinking. The team is dynamic and fast paced, and you will need to be comfortable working in ambiguity.

**Job description**:

- Lead the effective implementation of advice: Supporting the translation of Export Council advice into options and action plans to support effective implementation, identifying potential solutions, and working with sub-teams across the Agriculture Food and Drink team, and DBT more widely, to resolve cross-cutting problems in relation to implementation of advice.
- Line management of one HEO and one EO.
- _**Hybrid working**

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.

- Experience of working with data and analysis
- Experience of project leadership
- Experience of writing technical briefing, submissions or reports
- Knowledge or experience of Agriculture, food and drink sector or trade

**Desirable Criteria**
