Export Compliance Officer

The Export compliance officer will be responsible to manage and implement procedures and policies for all activities related to the export and import of items and technology, in a manner that is both compliant with regulations and fulfils the overall company objectives.

As the Export Compliance Co-Ordinator, you are responsible for process, execution and compliance in line with the Export industry best practice.
- **POSITION OVERVIEW**:

- Responding to and communicating with stakeholders and customers - Talking, advising and being able to lead the conversation > being the export “expert”
- ECCN and commodity codes update (Monthly).
- Understanding how to classify, when to classify and impacts of changes
- Act as the escalation point for assisting with items held in customs. Obtain paperwork and send to freight forwarders to allow for the shipment to proceed, engaging with local couriers when required
- Being point on resolutions and not needing to seek internal support when having to work with outside parties to ensure movement of goods are not delayed.
- Export Presales Advice - Advise on pre-quotation to cover Incoterms 2020, Duties and Charges along with applicable shipping documentation required.
- Being the “oracle” for sellers and enabling the quotes to be issued in a manner that best benefits Zones and also the customer (understanding VAT, Tax implications and the compliance issues with moving goods across borders.
- Certificate of origin - working with the chamber of commerce to ensure that origin of goods is correct and meets the requirements of being documented for certificates to be issued
- ATR
- Commercial Invoice - Detailing and understanding the different Zones entities and how we can benefit from intercompany transactions to present a “DDP” experience to our customers whilst ensuring no irrecoverable costs are created.
- Optimizing export processes and documentation including commercial invoices for every shipment outside the EU, to reduce manual efforts.
- Being able to plan, implement and scale up processes and understand the need to avoid bottlenecks and points of failure.
- Project Management of export requirements and compliance for existing and new customer acquisitions working with the customer on-boarding PM.

- Creating and delivering training for the sales and purchasing teams in terms of Export and Import (IADs, EADs, Fulfilment).
- Being able to plan, implement and deliver real world training to colleagues to ensure that adherence is achieved to processes and overall compliance.
- Creating documentation and presentations to leadership when required.

- Setting up Export procedures and maintaining the record keeping (Invoices, AWB and SAD declarations, among others).
- Lead investigations relating to potential compliance breaches and prepare any resulting incident report to Global Trade Compliance and Legal Departments.
- Being able to plan, implement and deliver real world training to colleagues to ensure that adherence is achieved to processes and overall compliance. Communication is key and knowledge must be conveyed. And detailed and high level attention must be the focus to ensure that we have clear records.

**EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION**:

- Degree in international business preferred

***REQUIRED EXPERIENCE**:

- Import/Export exposure
- Understanding of global compliance and trade
- Exposure to Chamber of commerce
- Membership of CILT is a preference
- Export controlled item management
- Strong communication written skills
- Leadership ability > must be able to direct conversations and act as a valued provider of information.
