**About the UKEF Academy**

The aim of the programme is to support career development within UKEF and secure a cohort of staff for the two Groups who can be developed over time to provide a strong foundation for our business.

Each participant in the UKEF Academy will complete 18 months on work placements, 9 months in BG and 9 months in RMG. These placements will be complemented by a structured training programme which will consist of:

- A Comprehensive Induction - prior to commencing placements
- Core Skills - covering topics like Presentation Skills, Advising Briefing and Drafting and Excel skills
- Specialist/Technical Skills - covering topics like Underwriting, Credit Risk, Documentation and Project Finance
- Case Studies - bringing the learning to life

**Business Group**

The Business Group is similar in scope to the international finance team in a multinational bank. Activities of the Business Group include: building market awareness of UKEF’s capabilities; developing and building relationships with exporters, purchasers of exports, and financial institutions who provide financing and insurance under guarantee from UKEF; delivering UKEF support to our customers; and developing products and policy to support the aims of UKEF as a business.

The Business Group is comprised of several areas that operate across a wide range of sectors that UKEF provide financial support to which include Aerospace, Construction, Defence, Energy, Shipping and Renewables to name but a few, as well as the breadth of UK’s SME and mid-sized business segments

**Risk Management Group**

The Risk Management Group, under the leadership of the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) is responsible for Management of UKEF’s risk portfolio (circa £55bn), including new business credit risk assessments (circa £6.5bn per annum). RMG operates via 5 Divisions which are responsible for: Risk Approvals; Analysis; Portfolio Management; Restructuring, Claims and Recoveries; and Enterprise Risk Management. These divisions are responsible for all aspects of risk management including setting risk management policies and the pricing of risk (UKEF is required to cover its costs in administrative and credit losses); setting appropriate limits (country and counterparty limits); managing portfolio concentrations via active portfolio management and providing analytics on our portfolio. In addition, we have a division that manages the enterprise risk framework for UKEF.

The group convenes the Enterprise Risk and Credit Committee, which is responsible for advising the Chief Executive on effective management of UKEF’s credit risk exposures, on both a case specific and portfolio level, and on enterprise risks across the department in accordance with UKEF’s risk management policies.

**About the Role**

The main purpose of the Executive Officer role is to provide a highly effective and professional support service that meets the requirements of the BG or RMG across a range of business areas and for staff at all levels.

For example, an Assistant Underwriter within the BG may specialise in certain activities and be allocated to a specific area but collaboration across the team is expected, and positively encouraged, in order to enhance both the quality of work and the individual’s ability to step into the work of other Assistant Underwriters as required.

- To be process manager in respect of elements of casework as delegated by colleagues effectively and efficiently, complying with Departmental policy and procedures in support of the underwriting or risk team.
- To participate, as necessary, in meetings, conference calls and other direct communications with key stakeholders, exporters, banks, project developers and legal advisers.
- To support the negotiation of key documentation by undertaking specific parts of the process in conjunction with other deal team members.
- To support the process of taking cases through the risk approval and underwriting processes including assisting in the drafting of underwriting or risk submissions.
- To research specific issues arising during the underwriting, risk assessment, deal execution and post issue management processes with the guidance of senior colleagues and to produce specific and detailed recommendations in respect of those issues where necessary.
