**Overview**
The MoJ Property Directorate is a customer focused organisation that exists to enable our customers to perform to their very best. We do this by providing high quality, easy to use services, and working environments that our customers want to work in, which support them to deliver their individual outputs efficiently. Our job is to manage one of the most diverse and complex estates in Government - hosted by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). As of 2 April 2021, the Prisons Maintenance Group (or PMG) joined MoJ Estates Directorate and the team receives a new title, MoJ Property Directorate. This change aligns us with our Profession - the Property Profession - and brings together a property portfolio including Prisons, Probation, and MoJ HQ and Arms Length Bodies. We also provide property services on behalf of the Home Office.
The Ministry of Justice is committed to leading the Government’s response to the climate emergency and becoming the first Government department to be net zero. As a Net Zero Programme Lead in the Climate Change and Sustainability Unit you will be spearheading the department’s response to climate change, influencing delivery of the net zero carbon agenda for one of the biggest Government departments, touching the lives of more than a hundred thousand people.
You will play a crucial role in transforming the Ministry of Justice into a net zero carbon organisation and delivering one of our key strategic objectives. Your passion and enthusiasm for sustainability and carbon reduction will drive change throughout the department. You will use your abilities to manage projects and programmes, solve complex problems, lead and influence others and work in dynamic and diverse teams to deliver our ambitious targets. You will be working across the MoJ estate in partnership with our Property team across the prison and probation estate, FM partners, contractors, commercial colleagues and other key stakeholders.
**Team Overview**
You will be part of the net zero carbon team of professionals within the multidisciplinary Climate Change and Sustainability Unit responsible for the development and delivery of key MoJ sustainability programmes. The MoJ intends to be a sustainability leader within Whitehall, and as such, seeks high performing and highly motivated individuals to inspire and deliver meaningful environmental improvements. We work collaboratively across our areas of expertise to deliver positive environmental outcomes across a large range of themes including:
- Energy management & carbon reduction in line with net zero carbon ambitions
- Meeting the Greening Government Commitment target (GGC)
- Waste management and circular resource models
- Water efficiency
- Sustainable construction
- Sustainable procurement
- Sustainable travel
- Biodiversity protection and enhancement.
In the last two years the Net Zero Carbon team has secured millions of pounds to deliver heat decarbonisation of the selected prisons, delivered more than 50 solar PV projects, installed over 200 electric vehicle charging points, and hundreds of energy efficiency upgrades. The Climate Change and Sustainability Unit is also responsible for embedding environmental sustainability across MoJ, its agencies (including prisons, courts and probation centres) and its Arm’s Length Bodies. This includes the department’s policy making, operations, finance, governance, estates and commercial activity.
