**Purpose of this role**:
To manage and support the co-ordination, development and implementation of key corporate strategies, policies and plans, partnerships and corporate priorities and carry out key corporate functions to ensure the Council is ambitious, forward thinking and creative. To devise and utilise a wide range of creative techniques to policy design and development across a wide range of key stakeholders.

- Executive Directors, Senior Officers and other staff across the Council
- Strategic Partners
- Voluntary and Community Groups
- Wider Derbyshire communities (including residents and businesses)

Influence employees outside of assigned areas (other departments and partner agencies) sharing and maximising available resources to achieve delivery of shared agendas and priorities.

Line managed by a Policy Manager.

**Key result areas include**:

- Managing, leading and supporting the co-ordination, development, implementation and monitoring of a range of strategic policies, programmes and plans
- Developing and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders and a range of statutory and non-statutory partners, developing effective partnership working where applicable
- Developing and maintaining policy intelligence and insight and maintain a thorough understanding of current national issues, strategic developments and good practice in relation to local government. Produce guidance, briefings, presentations and written reports for the Council and partners agencies.
- Supporting new and creative ways to develop and shape the Council’s strategic plans and policies through policy design
- Preparing complex and detailed reports and/or plans for senior management to aid strategic decision making
- Undertaking a range of corporate projects in relation to local and national policy initiatives, developing plans, setting targets and monitoring and reporting progress to ensure delivery
- Leading and participating in cross departmental working groups on behalf of the team
- Collaborating with senior managers, partners and other agencies both locally and nationally to implement legislative requirements. Learn from others and benchmark performance to further improve the Council’s services and outcomes for local people
- Maintaining up to date understanding of key corporate policy issues and provide advice on policy issues through preparing appropriate briefings and reports
- Managing and motivating a team of policy colleagues and contribute to the maintenance of a highly competent and professional working environment, taking responsibility for monitoring and feedback on performance and recruitment and selection where necessary
- Managing allocated resources specific to the work and managing and monitoring relevant budgets within own area where necessary
- Deputising for the Policy Manager as required.
