An exciting opportunity to Lead the Asset Valuation Team at Derbyshire County Council and deliver the Councils's strategic property asset valuation programme to support the council’s Corporate Property objectives managing an extensive and varied portfolio of assets valued in excess of £2 billion.

Derbyshire County Council is looking for an experienced Principal Asset Valuer to lead and support the Asset Valuation Team and other colleagues to work with Senior Management and external stake holders.

You will be exposed to an interesting and broad range of service requests, so this is a great opportunity for an individual who already has key General Practice skills and disciplines.

You will oversee the Council's asset valuation advice in regard to providing professional and technical advice on real estate issues to senior managers and client departments. Along with managing the Council’s property portfolio to promote best value in the use of Derbyshire County Council’s land and property assets.

You will be leading an established, stable and professional team of Property Professionals and have a supportive manager who encourages career progression in one of England’s most beautiful areas, including the Peak District National Park, with the flexibility of hybrid working and from offices based in picturesque Matlock and across the County.

**What will I be doing**:

- Lead, support and help develop a team of valuers
- Lead on communications with Capital Accountancy and deal with issues and queries.
- Instruct and supervise the work of external Contractors
- Instruct and liase with the Property Core Data team to ensure data and measurement in relation to property assets is managed in accordance with national and internal standards.
- Provide expertise, advice and guidance and within specialised field. Undertake CIPFA asset and lease categories.
- Lead the delivery of the Terms of Engagement between Finance and Property. Ensure all professional work complies with all statutory and financial regulations.
- Ensure that valuations are accurately imported into the register and provide and present reports and briefings on the asset valuation program as required.

**What skills and experience do you need to have**:

- Extensive experience of undertaking statutory Asset Valuations Programmes for Local Authority Accounting purposes.
- Experience of undertaking property transactions including acquisitions, disposals and all aspects of property management.
- Experience of managing a complex project delivery programme in accordance with set performance targets.
- A sound understanding and practical knowledge of Local Government and partner public services.
- Experience of reporting to management on financial and budget issues within a real estate context.
- Ability to effectively Lead and motivate a team.
- Ability to work to deadlines.
- Ability and confidence to work alone at various locations around the county in accordance with the Council’s Lone Working Policy.
- Ability to understand complex issues, using innovative thinking towards problem solving.
- An understanding of the effect of local market conditions.
- Awareness of Fire Safety, Health & Safety legislation, and Asbestos Regulations.
