Effective communication is a vital part of providing the best possible care to children and their families. For example:
It helps patients and their families understand what to expect when they come to the Trust, alleviates concern, helps them to manage conditions at home and helps them get the support they need.

It allows staff to understand the organisation they work for and play a full role in delivering the strategic objectives. It also helps to recruit the best possible employees.

It helps to build reputation with partners, the community, the media and the people we serve.

It helps the Trust run more smoothly by both informing and engaging people.

It helps the Trust to meet its objectives, with tangible measurable actions.

As a Communications Officer, you would provide general support to this work and produce the vital content - written materials, graphics, photography and video - for both internal and external audiences.

Producing written information for a variety of different audiences
and for a variety of channels, eg print, web, social media.

Creating supporting resources such as videos and graphics to support accessibility - from concept through to delivering the final product.

Working with people (either professionals or service users) to understand their needs and develop communications resources to support them.

Managing flow of requests and information and making sure information reaches the right people, and is escalated where appropriate.

Sheffield Children’s is one of three independent, specialist paediatric hospitals in the country, providing dedicated healthcare for children and young people across community, mental health and acute specialist settings.

Producing videos explaining key Trust services, processes and celebrating the Trust.

Supporting with the development of patient education videos

Developing patient and staff case studies.

Taking high quality photography around the Trust to showcase our facilities and our staff, for use in public relations and marketing materials.

Developing professional looking materials to further develop the Trust brand.

Collating information for media enquiries.

Helping staff develop materials for conferences and presentations.

Supporting staff with internal communications projects, such as increasing take-up of flu vaccinations and promoting the staff survey.

Producing regular staff updates to support Trust staff in their daily work.

Responding to social media comments and queries.

Supporting with staff engagement activity.

Developing targeted mailing lists, to increase the relevance of information for each audience.

Monitoring the main Communications inbox and ensuring appropriate filtering of information to other team members

Hosting visits to the Trust.

Providing other support as required for the work of the Communications Team.
