**Key Duties**
- Deal with a range of enquires from internal (staff) and external customers (members of the public, primary and secondary schools, partners and stakeholders), in a professional manner, establishing their needs and adapting the standard responses accordingly.
- Work with others to make recommendations for the development and improvement of current University processes and procedures.
- Create good working relationships with key contacts to help improve service levels.
- Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the team and department.
- Gather and review data to update administrative systems such as databases and spreadsheets, making sure the information is accurate, and highlighting to your line manager basic trends and patterns.
- Actively contribute to the success of the team and support the supervision and management of it.
**Specific Duties**
- Produce documentation, plan and organise meetings, take minutes/notes and ensure any travel arrangements are made.
- Provide PA and diary support to the Director of SHRN.
- Provide administrative support for SHRN events, engagement activities and visitors
**General Duties**
- Abide by all University policies and undergo appropriate personal and professional development.
- Perform other duties which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role.
- Uphold the Professional Services Values & Behaviours or local equivalent.
**Person Specification**
**Essential Criteria**
- Ability to carry out a variety of administrative tasks, including writing clearly and concisely.
- Experience of working in an administrative or office setting.
- Ability to set up and maintain standard administrative systems and procedures, including using University systems to collate and record data online and in hard copy. (Training will be provided where required).
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of people effectively and courteously whilst maintaining professional standards, adapting your language and style of communication depending on who you are communicating with.
- Ability to work well with your team, knowing how to give advice, guidance and feedback (to colleagues and members of the public) as appropriate.
- Ability to deal with requests for information or service, resolving customer issues where appropriate, or being able to escalate where necessary.
- Ability to plan and organise your own workload within agreed timelines as set by your Line Manager.
- Ability to use your initiative to solve problems and respond to queries, finding and proposing the best solution.
**Desirable Criteria**
- Experience of working in a Higher Education environment.
- Ability to speak/understand Welsh or a willingness to learn.

**SHRN Information**
The School Health Research Network (SHRN) is a policy-practice-research partnership between Cardiff University, Welsh Government (both health and education), Public Health Wales and Cancer Research UK. SHRN has recruited 100% of maintained secondary schools in Wales and established a data collection and reporting infrastructure that meets health and wellbeing data needs at local, regional and national levels, with 94% of schools and 70% of the secondary school population participating at last data collection. SHRN is now rolled out to primary schools across Wales and has supported sister networks in Scotland, England, across Europe and now in Africa with partnerships to harmonise measures and methods.
- The high coverage of the Student Health and Wellbeing Survey enables the health, education and school experience of small and/or vulnerable population subgroups to be monitored, e.g. looked after young people, young carers, and young people of gypsy traveller heritage. Capacity for longitudinal and data linkage research are now in place in the Student Health and Wellbeing Survey, meaning young people’s health and attainment can be monitored as they move through adolescence and the determinants of physical and mental health better understood. In particular, data linkage will enable pathways to mental health service use and service improvements to be evaluated and also offers the potential to monitor the long term health and educational outcomes of vulnerable groups, including care experienced people. SHRN supports the conduct of Health Behaviour In School Children Survey. This has been funded by Welsh Government and conducted in Wales since 1985 and allows time trend comparisons of our young people’s health and well-being with 50 countries.
