**User Researcher **(Inside IR35)**

**Location: Hybrid - Manchester/Bristol - 1-2 days per week**

This role is part of Cabinet Office Digital which provides, maintains and supports (amongst other things) the core IT infrastructure services relied on by all staff, such as: telephony, network, Wifi, end-user devices, cloud capability and software across the entire Cabinet Office estate. Our user base includes the Cabinet Office, Crown Commercial Services, and the Government Property Agency.

**As a User Researcher**, **your main responsibilities would be**:

- Planning, designing and preparing a range of user research activities to support the design, development and continuous improvement of government services
- Carrying out user research activities from recruiting participants, preparing discussion guides and moderating research sessions
- Design and run contextual and discovery research to develop a deep understanding of the needs of all users of a service
- Manage the usability and accessibility testing process from recruiting participants, designing test tasks and preparing discussion guides to test moderation, analysis and presenting results
- Lead the design, execution and analysis of ad-hoc quantitative surveys
- Conduct required user research throughout discovery, alpha and beta phases of projects to launch, including post-launch research as required
- Lead colleagues to analyse research data and synthesise clear and actionable findings, including working closely with analytics colleagues to create a rich picture of user behaviour
- Communicate user research findings to help the team and wider organisation develop a deep understanding of users and their needs - including presentations at show and tells, designing and maintaining research outputs in the team’s digital spaces and creating formal reports
- Work closely with Business Analysts, Delivery Managers, Enterprise Architects and Subject Matter Experts to turn user research findings into stories and actions that lead to valuable product and service features
- Align user research activities with wider plans to inform service propositions
- Contribute to the wider user research community, including presenting in community show-and-tells

**You’ll have relevant experience in**:

- ** SC/CTC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role; as a minimum you must be eligible and willing to undergo these checks**
- Understanding of a range of user-centred service design and delivery practices
- The ability to understand what problem your team is trying to solve, and align user research activities to inform decision making and action
- Understanding of a range of techniques for analysis of research data, synthesis of findings, and presentation of clear findings that colleagues can understand and use
- A good understanding of the diversity of users of government services, and the ability to include many kinds of users in appropriate research activities
- Working with colleagues to plan and do continuous user research in a multidisciplinary team
- Involving your team in research activities, and in analysis and synthesis
- A good understanding of the social and technological context for government services, and the ability to align user research activities to help the team understand changing user behaviour
