Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Service Designer to join our Funding Service team at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. As a Senior Service Designer, you will play a key role in designing end-to-end journeys for government services, ensuring that they meet user needs and are delivered through integrated digital and non-digital services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gain a deep understanding of policy and organisational intents, as well as user needs, to inform service design decisions.
  • Plan and lead user research activities, collaborating with teams to analyse and synthesise research findings.
  • Analyse failure within existing services, identifying root causes and developing recommendations for improvement.
  • Map current service journeys and create blueprints for improved and/or new services.
  • Communicate research findings through presentations, reports, and other research outputs.
  • Establish collaborative working practices with content designers, product managers, and developers to turn designs into actionable solutions.

Person Specification

We are looking for a Senior Service Designer with:

  • Experience designing services that meet user needs and are delivered through integrated digital and/or non-digital services.
  • Experience planning and leading continuous service design in a multidisciplinary team, involving team members in research activities, analysis, and synthesis.
  • Experience leading the analysis and synthesis of outputs from workshops and other research/design activities, such as user journeys and service flows.
  • Ability to quickly understand the social and technological context of services.
  • Understanding of the diversity of users of government services and the ability to include all kinds of users in research activities to deliver accessible services.
