-About the role

The Junior Network Administrator will be an integral part of the Network team. Working alongside the rest of the team to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organisation.

They will assist development of a complete technical support service to ensure the College’s resources are managed efficiently and effectively to meet Management and Student needs.

The college provides a corporate level network including on-premises and cloud base services and a complex multi-location network supporting a large selection of devices and software.
Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be expected to:

- Work as a key member of the Network team to ensuring the team achieves the operational service levels, focusing on optimal performance, availability and security
- Have a keen focus on emerging and future technologies, innovation and process improvements to improve efficiency and service the department offers
- Identifying gaps in existing knowledge of software and/or hardware, and be keen to learn on the job through personally led continuous professional development
- Have some knowledge of relevant on-premises and cloud-based technologies, working to increase that knowledge all the time
- Understanding of the full 365 Suite including Azure in hybrid and Administration of this.
- Experience of cyber security, defences and understanding of the current threats facing the education sector from cyber-attacks. Including knowledge of the cyber essentials process and compliance.
- Support the IT Network Manager to regular review the full college estate to ensure that any current or future vulnerabilities are patched inside of the 14 day window allowed by cyber essentials.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with teams, communicating proactively and, if required, meeting with key contacts across the college.
- Contribute to IT projects across the college ensuring they are completed on time and on budget. Including supporting management of the lifecycle of all network hardware
- Work with external suppliers to ensure escalated issues are resolved and projects are completed on time.
- Carry out routine network management tasks including backups, anti-virus checks, certificate maintenance and monitoring and other housekeeping tasks.
- Test, approve and administer all, network hardware and software upgrades, minimising downtime to the network.
- Have a comfortable understanding of change management processes and the ability to support raising business cases to support larger changes
- Support the IT team to oversee the software lifecycle management of eg Windows builds remaining compliant with cyber essentials along with all other software onsite remaining complaint.
- Hardware lifecycle and future capacity planning of the college estate to ensure that all hardware is still in support and future capacity plans are catered for with relevant equipment being purchased.
- Understand the impact of GDPR and how it effects all aspects of the college systems and data flow.
- Understanding of the use of Privileged access, the rights it gives you and the appropriate use of them
- Assist college functions, such as open evenings, enrolment, awards evenings etc.
- To undertake any other such duties commensurate with the grade of the post as may be requested of you by your Line Manager at your initial place of work or at any other premises which the Corporation currently has or may subsequently acquire.
- To know and abide by the health and safety rules within the College and be aware of good practice in the working environment.
Skills, knowledge and expertise

**Qualifications and training**:

- Microsoft qualifications or willingness to work towards them
- ITIL qualification or willingness to work towards them

**Skills and expertise**:

- Evidence of successful involvement in an IT technical team
- Knowledge of Office365 Admin, Azure AD including Microsoft Security and Compliance Centre
- Knowledge of current protocols and standards, including Active Directory, group Policies, MS Exchange, Core switching and routing, virtualisation, Business continuity and Disaster recovery
- Experience of configuration/management of routers, firewalls and switches
- Knowledge and experience of web technologies
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels and establish and sustain positive relationships.
