**About the role**

This is a great opportunity for an experienced transport planner to join our expanding Development Planning team. Our teams have an excellent reputation for Development Planning and Public Realm and an established track record of successfully delivering a wide variety of projects to both local and national clients.

Our teams work with private and public sector clients, architects, planners and other property professionals throughout the project life cycle, providing services from site feasibility through to completion. We also support other GHD business lines where their projects have a transport interface.

The GHD transport team has a wide-ranging capability: from site feasibility and masterplanning, through to planning and then detailed design. The multi-disciplinary nature of the business also means that we are able to build project teams from disciplines wider than transportation to offer clients a true ‘one stop shop’.

With experience in a similar role you will work on a portfolio of different projects, expanding the capability in the region and supporting the ongoing activities of a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy.

The role will be based from our London office, but we operate a hybrid working environment which provides opportunity to work from any of our other UK offices and from home.

**Core responsibilities**:
**Project Delivery**
- Forecasting the effects of new developments and devising strategies to cater for generated trips.
- Responsible for leading project teams or project steps within a larger design programme, proactively raising issues that may affect completion of projects in a timely manner.
- Drawing on technical knowledge and experience to independently develop the most effective solutions for technical problems.
- Undertaking role of Project Manager for significant sized projects, leading project meetings, managing resources and project delivery.
- Coordinating the daily activities of a project team including allocating and signing off technical work and providing feedback on performance.
- Liaising with clients as appropriate to establish a clear definition of project requirements and providing advice and update reports in relation to the planning, design and supervision of projects.
- Coordinating activities with peers and team members to meet deadlines and achieve set targets in the most effective and efficient way.
- Identifying and managing both project and commercial risks.
- Monitoring and controlling work outputs and costs during the progress of the project.
- Liaising with third parties involved in projects, including when necessary, the general public.
- Contributing to the growth of the business by maintaining client relationships and ensuring client loyalty and repeat work through excellent customer service and delivery.
- Leads the with the preparation and submission of proposals.
- Being involved in continuously improving the performance of employees and acting as a mentor for more junior employees.
- Ensures junior team members are adhering to delivery standards and ensures essential procedures are followed based on knowledge of own industry.
- Proactively identifies decrease in workload within own team and collaborates with leadership to secure additional projects to keep teams busy and engaged.
- Assisting with the preparation and submission of proposals.

**Skills, Experience and Qualifications**
- 8+ years’ experience in transport planning
- Experience / knowledge of the transport modelling software packages Junctions, PICADY, ARCADY, LinSIG.
- An understanding of core highway design principles
- Experience of managing projects and liaising with clients
- Supervising, mentoring or developing less experienced staff
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Commercial awareness in dealings with clients, proposals and projects.
