The Faith Schools Policy Team is responsible for the policy and legislative framework that support state funded faith schools and manages the department’s relationship with faith school provider organizations. The team is part of the School Accountability Division, which is responsible for a number of high profile and fast-moving and policy areas.

We are looking to fill two SEO policy role to lead and work on Faith Schools policy. The roles involve leading on engagement with the main faith bodies providing state-funded faith schools, and working closely with Regions Group to support Church and other faith schools to become academies.

**Job description**:
Approximately a third of all state funded schools have a religious character and are often referred to as faith schools, making faith school providers key partners in the provision of state funded education in England. You will be playing a core role in facilitating engagement between the department and faith school provider partners. These posts offer excellent opportunities for working across teams within the department to develop policy and solve tricky issues.

The role may include:

- Stakeholder engagement with representative bodies for faith schools
- Leading projects to develop the policy framework relating to faith schools
- Providing advice to and briefing ministers on current and emerging policy in relation to faith schools.
- Management of relationship with key internal stakeholders including Regions Group and cross cutting policy teams
- Providing policy advice and supporting Regions Group casework in relation to the conversion of faith schools to academies
- Supporting engagement between ministers and senior civil servants and representative bodies for faith schools
- Supporting department of state functions including TO, PO, PQ and FOI cases.
- Task management for one HEO

- Strong organisation and planning skills
- Experience of leading policy development projects

**Benefits**:

As a member of the DfE, you will be entitled to join the highly competitive Civil Service Pension Scheme, which many experts agree is one of the most generous in the UK, with an average employer contribution of 27%.

You will have 25 days leave, increasing by 1 day every year to a maximum of 30 days after five years’ service. In addition, all staff receive the King’s Birthday privilege holiday and 8 days’ bank and public holidays.

We offer flexible working arrangements, such as job sharing, term-time working, flexi-time and compressed hours.

Most DfE employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending at least 60% of their time in an office or work setting. Changes to these working arrangements are available in exceptional circumstances but must be agreed with the line manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Travel to your primary office location will not be paid for by DfE, but costs for travel to an office which is not your main location will be covered.
