At South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust we provide the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK. We also provide substance misuse services for people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. Our staff serve a local population of nearly two million people. We have more than 230 services including inpatient wards, outpatient, and community services. We provide inpatient care for over 5,000 people each year and we treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham, and Croydon. As well as serving the communities of south London, we provide more than 50 specialist services for children and adults across the UK and beyond.
**What you’ll be responsible for**:
- Ensure that all clinical letters and reports are typed and despatched promptly (within 72 hours), taking follow up action where necessary. This will include generating own correspondence, screening the post and undertaking intermediary action in the absence of MDT staff.
- Deal professionally with telephone enquiries, using initiative to take follow up action when appropriate and help to reassure patients, who can be distressed and confused, in a tactful manner.
- Responsible for ensuring referrals are passed to the duty officer, using agreed criteria, to ensure their prompt attention by and allocation to the appropriate member of staff.
- Ensure patient's case notes within the electronic Patient Journey System (ePJS) are kept up to date, and that a paper-light ethos is maintained within the team.
- Record referrals and contacts made by clinical staff. Create/amend entries and record all correspondence on ePJS and extract information as and when required

- This role may require you to show evidence of secretarial qualification or at least 2 years demonstrable experience._
