**WE ARE**:
**THE LEGAL & COMMERCIAL DEPARTMENT**:
The Legal & Commercial Department is one of BESA’s key service departments and is a highly valued and visible benefit of membership - it is held in high regard and is noted for its professionalism. The team provides advice to members and represents members’ interests to a broad range of stakeholders in the HVAC industry. The team also delivers internal advice across the BESA corporate group and together with supporting the BESA governance regime.

**Key activities of the department are to**:

- advise members on a wide range of legal, commercial, corporate, construction and contractual matters.
- prepare and deliver in innovative ways, general guidance to members on a wide range of legal, commercial and contractual issues.
- represent members’ interests to improve the commercial environment in which they operate.
- advise on and enable management of legal matters to assist other internal service departments or group subsidiaries manage their legal risk profile.

**ABOUT THE ROLE**:
**Key Duties**:

- Assisting the department lawyers with exciting and insightful work.
- Meeting and interacting with BESA members and other BESA Group colleagues.
- Provide a quality, member-focused response to all telephone calls and enquiries.
- Experiencing a range of legal practice areas such as commercial, corporate, construction and contract law.
- Undertake research projects to support the department and inform the membership at large.
- Providing support to other BESA service departments and where appropriate taking initiative in advising and guiding members in relation to legal and commercial.
- Producing internal guidance for use by all departments across the BESA Group.

**This is a 3 month paid internship**.

**ABOUT YOU**:
**Qualification, Knowledge & Experience - Essential**:

- Law/Legal Graduate - (e.g. - LLB (Hons)/Graduate Diploma (GDL) / CILEX Level 6 Diploma).
- Knowledge of Contract Law (in a Common Law Jurisdiction).
- General Commercial Awareness.

**Qualification, Knowledge & Experience - Desirable**
- Some familiarity with UK Contract Law.
- Some familiarity with UK Construction Law.

**Skills & Abilities - Essential**:

- Competent in grammar and spelling.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all, including other staff, external visitors and clients.
- Effective time-manager.
- Microsoft Office Skills (e.g., Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word).
- Document management skills (i.e., use of automatic numbering, accurate proof-reading, spelling, grammar, hyperlinks, cross-referencing, table of contents, tracking and mail-merge).
