Enablement Volunteer

About the role

To support the Lead Enablement Worker with shop duties and

Technology/Kitchen Skills sessions.

Focus Birmingham is a specialist charity providing expert support, advice and information to anyone in Birmingham with sight loss. We aim to help people with sight loss and visual impairment lead an independent and rewarding life. Making lives better is at the forefront of what we do.

Background checks

This role will require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as well as two references, ideally from people in professional roles.

Role Tasks
- Shop duties - stocktaking, assisting, customers, updating databases and systems, ordering new stock and actively promoting products
- Technology Course duties - on to one with service users, including teaching accessible technology, demonstrating screen readers, magnification devices,

assisting with mobile phones, laptops, tablets and smart speakers.
- Kitchen Skills Course duties - assisting service users by demonstrating implements, gadgets and devices which enable those with visual impairments to be safer in the kitchen.

Skills required
- Excellent administration skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Excellent organisational skills#
- An understanding of Microsoft packages, including Excel
- An understanding of accessible technology to assist those living with visual impairments
- Friendly, helpful and caring
- A strong understanding and respect for confidentiality

Commitment level

We are looking for someone who is available on a Wednesday afternoon between 12.30 and 4.00.

- Focus Core Training
- Any additional relevant training to enable you to undertake the role
