The Criminal Justice Unit within West Midlands Police are responsible for delivering safe and efficient custody services across the West Midlands policing area. We are seeking the support of volunteers at one of our largest custody facilities in Perry Barr.


Perry Barr custody suite is not an operational police station, and does not have any dedicated provision in place for the reception of visitors. During peak times we can receive a high number of visitors for investigators, including voluntary attendees and witnesses. We also receive a high number of visitors for people in our care including, Solicitors, Appropriate Adults, Interpreters.


Why we need your help:


We have a new and exciting opportunity for volunteers to act as a concierge supporting us to improve the experience of our visitors, and reduce delays for suspect in custody.


This is a fantastic opportunity to get an insight into our organisation and how custody operates. Your contribution will be invaluable in improving the experience of all visitors to our sites, whilst offering you the opportunity to see how custody works, and develop skills/experiences which would be invaluable to any prospective employers.

· We will induct and train you to carry out the role

· For relevant roles, we will apply for an Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service check – having a criminal record isn’t a barrier to volunteering, this is simply to protect children/vulnerable people we work with

· Volunteers are eligible to claim £5. towards their lunch if they volunteer over 4 hours on given day.

The role will not commence until the volunteer have been security & DBS cleared; a thorough vetting process is in place for all volunteer roles. You will also be required to submit references covering the last 5 years before commencing your volunteer role.

Vetting 

Successful applicants will be required to pass NPPV2 Full Vetting prior to commencing their role.

Medical:

Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.
