**Description**:
We are seeking a Curator to join the Somerset House Studios team, working collaboratively across artforms to support artists and creatives in the realisation of their ideas. Combining curatorial and artist development experience with a passion for contemporary culture, the Curator will be responsible for the successful delivery of a unique year-round public programme representing the experimental cross-disciplinary focus of the Studios, working closely with the Director and Programmer.

**PROGRAMME**:

- Working with the Director, Somerset House Studios and the Studios’ Programmer, contribute to the delivery of a unique year-round programme of projects and commissions across a range of topics and media representing the experimental cross-disciplinary focus of the Studios.
- In response to organisational OKR’s and the artistic vision set by the Director of Studios, lead on shaping a year-round public programme ensuring a consistent offer across Studios projects (including the G31 project) throughout the year.
- Maintain oversight of the Studios programme planning calendar held by the Programme Producer.
- Research and contribute your own project proposals and ideas, as well as projects initiated by Studios artists and collaborative opportunities with guest curators.
- Working collaboratively with the Programmer and Programme Producer, lead projects from initial development to delivery within budget and time constraints.
- Lead and work closely with any external curators on projects, ensuring curatorial oversight and management of the project curatorial team to meet programme and budgetary needs.
- On specific projects, work with guest curators/artists/creatives as a co-curator, helping to shape and realise their visions for the Studios programme.
- Work closely with the marketing team to identify, reach and engage wide and diverse target audiences.

**ARTIST DEVELOPMENT**:

- In response to the Artist Development strategy set by the Head of Studios, responsibility for devising a revitalised public-facing Artist Development programme with support and Residency Producer and the wider team.
- Work with the Residency Producer, who leads internal artist development initiatives, to draw out opportunities informed by resident artists and alumni.
- Lead one-to-one artist development sessions with resident artists.

**MANAGEMENT**:

- Plan and facilitate Studios programming meetings, contributing creative ideas to the wider Studios programme, in close collaboration with the wider Programming team.
- Line manage the Studios Programmer.
- Manage programme proposals from residents and external artists, in collaboration with the wider team.
- Work collaboratively in the Studios team and with colleagues across all departments, ensuring colleagues are aware of projects in advance and across any updates and changes.
- Foster a supportive working environment through leadership of project teams.
- Build collaborative relationships with cross-departmental stakeholders such as Exhibitions, Digital, Inclusive Talent Engagement, Live Events Development, Marketing and Press on the development and delivery of Studios projects.
- Manage allocated Studios programme budgets as defined by Head of Studios, contributing to the formulation of budgets and forecasts for programme costs.
- Managing freelance curators, producers and contractors as required.
- Work closely with the team to maintain excellent relationships with the resident artists.
- Attend relevant events, festivals and conferences as required in order to support the Studios artistic mission.

**Skills, knowledge & expertise required for the role**:
**ESSENTIAL**:

- A proven track record in the curation and delivery of programmes and projects across different artforms
- Able to work collaboratively, as a cohesive part of a team, supporting and assisting in the shape and form of ideas, initiatives and projects that are not your own.
- Experience of working directly with artists to support their development
- Experience of budget management and all related administration
- An understanding of technical production in a live or exhibition environment

**DESIRABLE**:

- Curatorial experience within a visual arts context
- Experience and networks within the wider sector to draw on in support of devising a vibrant artist development programme
- Experience of managing people or teams for the delivery of projects
