Research Support Officer

Applications are invited for a Research Support Officer post to join the BAY (Behavioural Activation for Young people with depression in specialist child and adolescent mental health services) trial, which is led by the University of York and York Trials Unit; Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is one of the study partners. BAY will be set within specialist child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS). Participants will be children/young people who have depression, and their parents/carers.
The post-holder will be based at the Institute of Mental Health (with some flexibility around working from home) but final arrangements will be confirmed closer to the time once in post.
This is a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2026 at 0.8 WTE.
The post may require flexible working hours (specifically, most data collection will be done between 9am and 5pm but some appointments may overrun into the evening).
The post-holder will support the delivery of the BAY research study. The study aims to examine the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and acceptability of an intervention called Behavioural Activation (BA) and treatment as usual (TAU) versus TAU + psychoeducation in children/young people with depression who have been recently referred to specialist CAMHS.
Training for the successful applicant will be provided covering all trial activities including the trial protocol, screening and recruitment, trial database data entry, participant randomisation and data collection procedures.
**The successful applicant will be responsible for**:
- Identifying, recruiting and consenting participants
- Conducting clinical assessments and outcome measures (including an interview measure of mental health using the Development and Well-Being Assessment [DAWBA], in which specific training will be given
- Following up participants
- Carrying out data collection and data entry
- Ensuring the site meets its recruitment and follow-up targets and report any issues to the YTU Trial Managers
- Co-ordinating local site activities and report site performance back to the YTU as needed
- Assisting with other research tasks as agreed with their line managers and YTU Trial Management team

The post-holder will be based in Nottinghamshire and will work alongside local clinical teams in local CAMHS clinics and sites, and members of the University of York including the York Trials Unit (YTU), to recruit participants and assess outcomes for the trial.

The post-holder will join the BAY trial team, which comprises over 20 people across multiple organisations. They will receive supervision from their line manager based within the IMH. They will work together as a team with the BAY Trial Managers, (Dr Jane Blackwell and Ms Emma Standley, YTU) and be accountable to the Chief Investigator (Prof Bernadka Dubicka, Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, University of York).
You will be expected to work independently according to an agreed plan and under supervision, in keeping with the Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s research governance framework, and with the Principal Investigator for the study.
