**About the Trust**

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is one of the largest acute Trusts in the UK, employing over 28,000 staff. It was formed on 1st October 2017 and since then has been responsible for running a family of nine hospitals across six separate sites, providing a wide range of services from comprehensive local general hospital care through to highly specialized regional and national services.

**What you’ll be responsible for**:

- Assist in the provision of a media, internal and external communications service to support the strategic objectives of the Trust.
- Prepare proactive press releases which support to individual Hospital objectives and the wider MFT objectives and actively work with journalists to support patient case stories, ensuring support to those patients and families taking part in media coverage.
- Respond to media queries, ensuring accurate briefings are taken from journalists including the nature of the enquiry, the context to the article and their deadline. This may involve complex facts. Ensure timely briefing to the Communications Manager (Content and Media) and develop appropriate responses as appropriate. Ensure that MFT approval processes are followed in all cases.
- Media articles may well involve interviews with patients. The postholder will provide advice to patients and families where necessary.
- Supervise any media interviews and filming on site, ensuring consent is given for any patients and families involved.
- Provide a monthly evaluation summary of news coverage (using the media management system programme).

**You’ll learn the following whilst working at the trust**:

- An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS.
- Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times.
- A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation.

**You’ll have the following skills/experience**:

- Three years’ experience in a high-pressured press office, ideally but not necessarily in a hospital.
- Experience in a similar role
- Excellent IT skills
- Excellent organisational skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent telephone manner
- Microsoft Office package knowledge e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel
