This is a key co-ordination role, providing administrative support to the fracture clinic/BHOOP Service (Bone Health Osteoporosis for Older People) working closely with the NMSK inhouse support team.

The role will involve ensuring Fracture Clinic & BHOOP appointments are made and cancelled in line with the Trust policies, guidelines, and departmental protocols, contacting and responding to patient queries in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.

The post holder will act as the overall coordinator with responsibility for the fracture & BHOOP services and will be required to liaise with all staff in the department, including Consultant Medical Staff, Junior Doctors, Nursing Staff, Administrative Staff, and colleagues from other departments (including Medical Records and Radiology).

The post holder will exercise initiative, independent judgment and decision making with situations arising from the duties described below to ensure effective, high-quality service.
- To respond to patient telephone enquiries and booking calls in a courteous and timely manner, always maintaining confidentiality.
- To use the hospital PAS System to contact patients to make/cancel and/or rearrange outpatient appointments, at short notice if necessary, and to use other modules as required by the job.
- To use the e-Referrals appointment system to book/redirect referrals for the BHOOP service.
- To arrange interpreters for patients in accordance with booking protocol.
- To manage clinical waiting lists working alongside clinicians to ensure appropriate prioritisation of clinic bookings in line with the RTT pathway and BNSSG access policy.
- To reduce and cancel clinics and reschedule appointments using hospital PAS system in accordance with department booking rules.

The Avon Orthopaedic Centre (AOC) located in the Brunel Building is the largest specialist elective orthopaedic centre in the Southwest, 4th largest nationally, the Major Trauma provider for the Severn region, and regional tertiary referral centre for complex spinal surgery.

The Trauma Team work closely with the regional plastic surgery and regional vascular teams in the management of major trauma, and in addition have excellent outcomes with ambulatory and elderly trauma including hip fractures.

The elective Orthopaedic service is provided by a team of 39 North Bristol Trust and University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust Consultants, as part of a Bristol wide centralised orthopaedic service delivered at the AOC.
- To use databases and/or other systems as appropriate to maintain, record and monitor information.
- Coordinate with other relevant teams to ensure a smooth pathway for the patient.
- Fracture clinic runs 364 days a year, only closing on Christmas Day and you will be responsible for ensuring that the high standard of care is met for patient experience, working alongside services such as Minor injury units, GP Services, Emergency Department and inpatient wards.
- Ensuring that referrals received to the Fracture/BHOOP services are triaged, booked, or redirected accordingly.
- To work flexibly to provide cover for other team members where needed as required by the Outpatient Manager/Team Leads.
- To maintain quality in own work and encourage others to do so.
- To assist with learning and development activities.
- To appraise concepts, models, methods, practices, products, and equipment developed by others.
- This role will require close working with Medical secretary, Fracture liaison coordinator and the BHOOP secretary/clinical team.
- To work with colleagues to appropriately manage the office environment.
- Any other tasks deemed necessary by the Outpatient support manager, Performance manager or Assistant general manager.

All training will be provided for the Internal Systems.
