Manchester, United Kingdom National Trust Full time

We’re looking for an External Affairs Consultant to join a dynamic and energetic team in the North of England. You'll work closely with a variety of teams across the Trust to ensure a collaborative approach.

This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the delivery of an innovative, strategic programme, supporting the North of England’s towns and cities to transform their green spaces so that they deliver more for people and nature. You will be the regional lead working closely with partners and stakeholders to ensure the North is best placed to make the most of the opportunities the programme provides, as well as working internally to build enthusiasm and manage communications.

**Hours**:Part time 22.5 hours per week - we are flexible as to when you work these hours but ideally over 3 days

**Salary**:FTE £444,99pa Actual £26,699pa

**Contract**:Fixed term until August 2026

**Interviews: TBC 25th June**

What it's like to work here:The role is based in the regional internal consultancy but much of your time will involve working externally with partners and stakeholders across the North. You will support national and regional strategic leads for urban green space, working alongside colleagues in operations and the consultancy to share learning, access expertise, and understand the needs of places across the region.

As this role covers the North region, your contractual place of work will be the nearest National Trust consultancy office to your home. We have an office in Manchester/Altrincham, Newcastle, York and Grasmere. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We anticipate travel across the region and some national travel will be required. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40-60% of your working week.

What you'll be doing:Most of your time will be focused on ensuring a successful launch and roll out of a new strategic capacity building project that is led nationally but requires coordination at a regional level. This is a national partnership with the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Natural England so you will be adept at developing great working relationships with partners and stakeholders. You'll ensure the National Trust’s urban green space work in the region is co-ordinated and well communicated internally. Your influence will ensure that the programme meets the needs of Northern places.

You'll play an important role in preparing the National Trust in the North for further work in towns and cities, helping us to prioritise how and where we focus for maximum impact.

**Who we're looking forWe’d love to hear from you if you’re**:

- highly experience in external affairs, and in understanding the political and policy landscape
- a critical thinker, adept at thinking long term
- Job specific criteria
- a skilled communicator, who can build strong relationships within diverse teams, both internally and externally.

- proactive and organised, with experience of managing projects and a talent for multi-tasking and getting things done, strongly focused on detail, quality, cost and time.
- a leader for inclusion, who finds ways to create an inclusive culture.

The packageThe National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.
