Oxford, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time

The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment which enjoys an international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic.

The Equality and Diversity Unit supports the University’s commitment to fostering an inclusive culture which promotes equality, values diversity and maintains a working, learning and social environment in which the rights and dignity of all its staff and students are respected.

This role has a broad remit with a focus on supporting the EDU team to implement equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) activities and initiatives in line with the University’s strategic equality objectives. You will be responsible for supporting the team with delivery of activities across several different areas, including the development of a strategy for supporting disabled staff, the launch of an LGBTQ+ Steering Group, the development of tools and guidance to better support neurodivergent staff, and activities related to Athena Swan and the race equality strategy. You will also support EDU team members and the Chief Diversity Officer to hold events and symposia, and to undertake communications on strategic areas of EDI.

**What We Offer**

As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees’ wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:

- An excellent contributory pension scheme
- 38 days annual leave
- A comprehensive range of childcare services
- Family leave schemes
- Cycle loan scheme
- Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans
- Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs

This role also offers the opportunity for hybrid working, and the team are open to discussing a working pattern that works for you.

**About the Role**

You will be responsible for supporting the team in delivering a number of EDI activities and projects over the next year, coordinating initiatives meetings and events with a friendly and open team of EDI professionals. You will work with team members to launch activities in a number of areas, including the launch of an LGBTQ+ Steering Group, a strategy to better support disabled and neurodivergent staff, and activities related to Athena Swan and race equality.

You will work with the EDU team and the CDO’s office to plan and organise events, workshops, and webinars in support of building the EDI community and progressing the EDI strategy. You will build and maintain relationships with the University’s equality networks and other key stakeholder groups to understand EDI-related concerns and feed these into decision-making processes as relevant.

You will also support the head(s) of the Equality and Diversity Unit to manage the Equality and Diversity Panel, including preparing papers, and progressing recommendations and actions arising out of meetings.

**About You**

This is a new post, and we are looking to recruit a passionate advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion with demonstrable communication and project coordination skills, and a willingness to develop new skills as required.

You will have strong organisational, planning, and project management skills and the ability to work with some supervision to achieve agreed objectives and meet deadlines. You will have good oral and written communication skills with ability to write concise and clear papers, develop clear presentations and present to staff and students. You will also have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate sensitively, tactfully and persuasively about equality topics.

You will be committed to role modelling good practice and to actively promoting an inclusive work environment.

**Application Process**

Interviews will take place on 3rd May and will be face to face. If you would prefer to have a virtual interview for any reason, please get in touch.
