**Hours**:37 hours per week, 38 weeks per year (Usual working hours are 8:00 to 4:00 with a finish of 3.30 one day per week, to be agreed dependent on Academy needs) Part time hours will be considered

**Contract Basis**: Fixed term basis of 1 year in the first instance.

We are seeking to appoint an innovative and resourceful person to support students in our Well-being Hub. Our aim is to encourage a Positive Mental Health lifestyle and improve resilience with a small number of students who find mainstream schooling difficult. You will need to be comfortable working on your own with a small group of children.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills, being able to deal with sensitive and confidential issues. Applicants must have a minimum of 2 GCSE’s to include English and Maths from grade 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent or be able to demonstrate a willingness to work towards achieving these qualifications. Previous experience in a similar role is desirable.

St George’s Academy is a large, successful, 11-18 mixed secondary school of 2,377 students (including 349 in the sixth form and 531 on our Ruskington Campus) with outstanding facilities in all areas. The Academy serves Sleaford, Ruskington and the surrounding Lincolnshire villages.

**PURPOSE OF JOB**

The Assistant Student Intervention Workerwill:

- Provide 1:1 provision for a caseload of students who have been highlighted by the pastoral team as needing extra emotional support. Provide a flexible service to meet the individual needs presented.

**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS AND DUTIES**

**All responsibilities, tasks and duties to be carried out in line with Academy guidelines and policies.**
- Provide short and long term 1:1 intervention with students for a varying range of issues, not limited to but including: low self-esteem/confidence, anger, anxiety, panic attacks, mental health, internet safety, self-harm, suicide, medical issues, bullying, bereavement, domestic abuse, foster care/adoption, puberty, sex, sexuality, homework problems.
- Manage own caseload of students
- Ability to build relationships with young people including those not interested in engaging.
- Work autonomously with students using creativity and persuasion to overcome barriers to understanding and/or resistance to resolve a wide range of problems.
- Establish and maintain relationships with outside agencies This will involve providing advice and the provision and collection of detailed information to ensure a holistic approach is taken to the student’s wellbeing.
- Ability to work sensitively, tolerantly and patiently with minimum supervision.
- Flexible and proactive work ethic.
- Develop and manage action plans (in conjunction with parents) for those students (on caseload) who have been highlighted by the pastoral team as needing extra support.
- Support students and families with complex, emotive situations. Bridge the gap between school and home to enable students to achieve their full potential. The post holder will have discretion to interpret the Academy’s policies and procedures when deciding on the best course of action to be taken.
- Contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare and personal care of children and young people. Report to the designated safeguarding lead as appropriate.
- Assess risk of self harm and suicide and ensure students access statutory support as needed. This will require sensitivity and the ability to deal with highly emotive and difficult situations.
- Provide support, guidance and advice regarding students on caseload to staff across the school in order to provide a cohesive pathway of care for each individual.
- To be responsible for referring/signposting to outside agencies as required. To have thorough knowledge of the Mental Health provision locally and nationally.
- Remaining calm in pressured and volatile situations. Dealing with frequently unpredictable circumstances and changing priorities.
- Sensitively prioritise individual cases.
- Support and liaise with individual students, family and staff regarding reintegration after a period of prolonged absence.
- Manage reduced timetables and progress of students who have had prolonged absence.
- Be available to support students in crisis through the timeout card system.
- Attend TAC/CIN meetings as required and be named representative from school.
- Provide a calm environment for students to work independently if they are struggling to manage the mainstream environment.
- Encourage individuals to be socially included. Be available at break and lunch times for ad hoc support.
