**Role purpose**:_ _

As the Emergency Preparedness Lead within ShelterBox’s International Programmes Department, you will be responsible in leading the development and supporting the delivery of global level emergency preparedness plan(s) as part of response preparedness - with the aim of improving ShelterBox’s readiness to respond to emergencies.

Reporting to the Head of Emergency Response, the Preparedness Lead will work with multiple departments across the organisation to coordinate emergency preparedness efforts. The role will be varied and will include activities such as supporting the integration of preparedness plans within regional / country programme strategies, as well as advanced preparedness in identified priority countries/regions. The role will also be instrumental in the improvement of internal processes and mechanisms.

**Who are we looking for?**

ShelterBox is seeking a delivery-focused, practical, and proactive individual with a strong interest in emergency preparedness. This role would be ideally suited to someone with humanitarian experience, but who is looking to lead efforts in preparedness with an ultimate goal of helping ShelterBox to more effectively respond. The right person will have excellent people skills, have experience of strategy development and project delivery, as well as meeting and reporting against agreed objectives.

This role will be required to travel as part of the preparedness role. Whilst the position isn’t intended to be regularly deployable, the individual could be requested to provide occasional surge support to our ongoing disaster response in specific circumstances, as agreed with the Head of Emergency Response.

**Duties will include but not be limited to**:

- Lead the development and support the delivery of global level emergency preparedness plan(s) as part of advanced response preparedness - with the aim of improving ShelterBox’s readiness to respond to emergencies in identified priority countries/regions
- Work closely with the Programme teams to support the integration of preparedness plans within regional / country programme strategies
- Promote the use of effective approaches to disaster monitoring and risk analysis to support decision-making for both emergency projects and country programmes
- Build links and collaborate with relevant entities external to ShelterBox
- Work closely with the Partnerships Manager and Rotary Partnerships Manager to advise colleagues in the development of strong and mutually beneficial partnerships to enhance preparedness efforts
- Work closely with the Deployment Manager to support the development of an effective approach to emergency surge within ShelterBox, inclusive of staff and volunteers
- Work with teams such as Communications & PR and Brand and Content to improve ShelterBox’s ability to meet media, content, and fundraising objectives in rapid onset/rapidly escalating crises
- Support supply chain management in the development of global prepositioning strategy including emergency targets and KPIs
- Provide support to the Programme Supply Chain Manager in developing in country and regional preparedness plans, factoring in prepositioned stock, international and regional procurement options, and support to CVA
- Work closely with the Travel Management team to enhance safety and security considerations relevant to preparedness
- Adapt to evolving issues that could adversely affect ShelterBox staff, partners and/or preparedness efforts
- Prioritise ‘do no harm’ principles. Ensure those who encounter ShelterBox as a result of our activities are safeguarded from deliberate or inadvertent actions and failing which place them at risk or abuse, sexual exploitation, injury, and any other harm
- Support Learning & Development in the design and delivery of training relevant to emergency preparedness
- Maximise contributions in support of fundraising efforts, including media engagements from HQ and/or during travel
- Lead a culture that actively promotes improvements in its practices, processes, and outcomes, across all aspects of its work, seeking feedback from all stakeholders
- Provide surge support as the first point of contact for deployed teams and disaster monitoring on a 24/7 routine and emergency basis as part of a roster
