Your New role

At National Highways, we’re looking for a Programme Development Specialist to join our team based in Bristol. Within this role you’ll deliver a robust and systemic programme development and value management process for the Region, ensuring investment proposalsand emerging solution designs meet intended outcomes and provide the best lifecycle value.

What you’ll be leading on
- Work with key internal stakeholders to develop the region’s 5-10 year forward programme of work, coordinating inputs and activities across multiple regional teams
- Support the development of packages of work for scheme delivery suppliers, ensuring that these accurately reflect the work required to address the asset need
- Coordinate feasibility studies and activities involved in early solution development
- Manage programme development related activities within expected timescales and quality standards, ensuring activities are well planned and coordinated and that all supporting information and documents are effectively stored and controlled
- Assist in the control of the region’s business case approval process, liaising with Stakeholder Managers to manage timescales and impacts on the forward programme
- Provide technical programme management knowledge to assess proposed solutions/designs against overall costs and benefits
- Recommend opportunities to improve programme development and planning processes; champion and share best practice and promote compliance to recognised standards
- Ensure the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered
- Provide and present accurate updates including risks and opportunities within your portfolio to colleagues and managers

To be Successful
- Experience of Programme Development Management
- Demonstrable experience of delivering results accurately to a fixed timeline
- Proficient in MS Office with an emphasis on practical knowledge of Excel
- Knowledge of investment appraisal and optimisation techniques; value for money processes, criteria, and financial evaluation methods
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to execute tasks independently, yet work collaboratively within a team and respond to management guidance and support
- Good understanding of programme management processes and costs benefits analysis in a similar business environment
- Strong customer focus with drive, resilience and focus
- Good commercial and financial acumen (preferred)
