We have a new opportunity available for the role of Specimen Reception Training Lead, within the Specimen Reception section of the Clinical Pathology department at NUH NHS Trust.

The role will involve leading on all aspects of training within Specimen Reception. Ensuring staff are supported and proactively encouraged in acquiring the skills and competencies to undertake their roles. You will chair a monthly training meeting to update the team of progress and training gaps, alongside any new initiatives and improvements across the service. The role will provide strong and visible leadership to Specimen Reception teams.

Main duties of the job

To work as an effective member of the specimen reception team to ensure staff are supported and proactively encouraged in acquiring the skills and competencies, to undertake their roles and support the qualified laboratory staff and services. The role focuses managing and co-ordinating the successful delivery of training and ongoing development within Specimen Reception. It is expected that the post holder will provide expertise in the Training field. Line manage pre-analytical trainer and support in managing the specimen reception coordinators and associate practitioners.

To work as an effective member of the Clinical Pathology team to ensure high quality support and easy access to training and development for non-qualified roles, bringing in improvements as recognised while undertaking the role.

To support and cover the Pre-analytical Leads at times of staff shortages and absence.

The post holder will be required to work on both sites within the Nottingham University Hospital and to visit any satellite facilities as necessary to ensure compliance with legislation.

- To lead, manage and facilitate in delivering the in-house training activities in order to help meet the current and future needs and objectives
- To actively lead the induction of new staff, in conjunction with the specimen reception team and ensure the training programme is delivered.
- To maintain records of staff training, meetings and competencies. Developing reporting processes and logs. Determining competency standards and communicating to the team.
- To develop the training programmes for MLAs and other staff within Clinical Pathology visiting specimen reception.
- To arrange and facilitate compliance with Mandatory Training and local training for specimen reception staff
- To contribute to training needs analyses for specimen reception
- Validate the training provided by Pre-analytical Trainer and support staff
- To review the effectiveness of training in conjunction with the Clinical Pathology Quality team
- Line manage the Pre-analytical Trainer and support in managing the Specimen Reception Coordinators and other roles at this grade.
- Line manager new starters, explaining Trust and departmental policies and expectations when commencing role.
- To undertake in conjunction with the Specimen Reception Manager, enabling and supporting MLA staff who are being managed through both formal and informal capability action plans
- Undertake all aspects of recruitment for specimen reception staff (appointing, shortlisting, interviewing)
- To lead on recruitment of apprentices supporting facilitating placements and providing mentoring / guidance to apprentices
- Provide cover for the Pre-analytical Leads in cases of absence and to ensure service delivery
- Overall responsibility of Medical Laboratory Assistants in the absence of the Specimen Reception Manager
