Background

The FCA is a global regulator, supporting open markets through shaping the international regulatory agenda. The International Division leads our strategy for international engagement, working collaboratively across the FCA to ensure the organisation delivers on its international priorities.

You will help to shape the way we think about and approach regulation, and what the future of financial services looks like both in the UK and globally, for years to come. You will work with a wide range of colleagues across the FCA, as well as external domestic and international stakeholders.

We are recruiting for Associates to support the FCA’s international engagement including at global bodies such as IOSCO, the OECD, and the IMF and on retail investor and digital markets issues.

We are looking for a talented individual who can contribute to complex, high-profile and fast-moving portfolios in an often-uncertain policy environment. Good organisational, analysis and communication skills are essential.

What does this job involve?

Individual responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the FCA’s international engagement at global bodies on various topics including retail investor and consumer protection issues, and digitalisation, including by contributing to senior management briefings.- Contributing to our international strategy through internal and external stakeholder management and influencing.- Monitoring the work and output of global standard setting bodies and other international stakeholders, ensuring intelligence and policy developments are understood effectively throughout the FCA.- Working in collaboration with others across the International Division and wider FCA on international influencing and advocacy approaches across key policy areas.- Working with a wide network of internal and external stakeholders to develop international policy positions on key issues of common interest to the UK.- Working with other teams within the International Division and across the FCA, contributing to the development and delivery of the FCA’s overall strategy for international engagement.- An opportunity to take on a varied, high-profile, wide-ranging and interesting role which helps to drive the FCA’s international agenda.- Intellectual challenge from the opportunity to think about complex issues in a wide range of policy areas, and how they impact the FCA and global markets more widely.- An opportunity to be creative, problem-solve, and develop and enhance your influencing, engagement and communication skills.- A unique insight into international regulatory policy debates, including the financial stability challenges world leaders face, and the surrounding political environment, as well as exposure to senior leaders.

Which minimum, essential & desirable skills are required?

Minimum criteria

Required proven experience in a specific technical area or skill:
- Some understanding of the international financial regulatory agenda- Good written language skills- Good organisational skills- Good analytical skills- Good stakeholder management skills

Essential criteria- Collaborative and proactive approach - a strong team player with the ability to be flexible and pragmatic, taking account of others’ perspectives and adapting to changing circumstances.- Strong organisation, prioritisation and time management skills; ability to thrive under pressure, manage competing priorities and deliver to tight deadlines.- Good communication skills, including an ability to communicate effectively in person, and to communicate complex issues in writing succinctly.- Good judgement and an ability to quickly identify relevant issues from a wide range of data points and present the outcomes of your analysis quickly, clearly and effectively.- The ability to identify, build and maintain constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable criteria- Experience of working with international stakeholders or on global policy issues.- Experience of working directly with the Senior Leadership Team.
