A full-time vacancy exists for the Vincent Square Eating Disorders Service.

The Vincent Square Eating Disorder Service offers a range of specialist services for women, men, children and young people. Who are suffering from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and other eating disorders.

The post holder will predominantly work in the Community Eating Disorders Team for Children and Young people (CEDS- CYP) working with children and young people on an outpatient basis with a suspected or confirmed eating disorder. The post will provide Supervision and appraisal for systemic psychotherapists in the service and will also be expected to contribute to the teaching and training of other clinicians.

To provide a specialist systemic assessment of referrals of a significant and complex nature, drawing upon different explanatory theories and employing research based evidence models, in order to formulate and implement plans for the treatment and management of a child’s mental health problems.

To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients and formulate effective care plans in collaboration with the client and family. This includes undertaking risk assessment and risk management taking into account protective and risk factors present in the network of significant relationships that are cognisant of the multi-disciplinary Eating Disorders context.

Vincent Square eating Disorders Service is a busy, dynamic multidisciplinary service. The working environment will include liaison and working with professional networks involved with a range of complex issues such as those involving child protection; child and adolescent psychiatric disturbance; complex socio-economic difficulties including poverty, statelessness and asylum; emotional and behavioural disturbance; parenting difficulties; learning difficulties; acute and chronic illness; alcohol and substance abuse; self-harm; suicide risk; violence; trauma and mental health problems within the parents.

Competence is required in undertaking systemic psychotherapy with families through the use of an interpreter where families do not yet have sufficient understanding of the English language. Ability is required to translate western concepts to non-western families with skillful use of interpreters. Ability is also required to modify western therapeutic models for non-western families.

The post-holder will be expected to practice in a way which is inclusive and considerate of the needs of each individual in the system including family members and their varying developmental stages and current emotional state. This will also include taking into account highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the child and their difficulties
