We have an exciting opportunity for a Critical Care Band 7 Highly Specialist Physiotherapists to join our team on the St Marys site as part of the wider critical care therapy service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

Our friendly department is full of opportunity for a dynamic, enthusiastic physiotherapist who wishes to progress specialist clinical expertise and leadership skills within a critcal care unit within a London-based major trauma centre. This post would be based within critcal care at the St Marys Hospital site. This would include a case load of patients within the trauma, neuro-surgical, and vascular specialties.

We are looking for an experienced band 6 or current band 7 physiotherapist, with a keen interest in the field of critical care physiotherapy. You will have a wide range of clinical experience, good communication skills, interpersonal skills and a passion for delivering excellent patient centred care. You will have the opportunity to develop your specialist skills and knowledge in the areas of respiratory physiotherapy including NIV, ventilator and tracheostomy weaning and rehabilitation within the critical care.

As a highly specialist physiotherapist you will help with the day to day team management and have supervisory, teaching and training responsibilities. As part of your role you will initiate and participate in service development, audits and in-service training. You will have excellent support from the Band 8a Clinical Lead Physiotherapist and work closely with the well-established multi-disciplinary team.

We offer a comprehensive in-service training and induction programme, enhanced by simulation based on-call training. Internal and external courses are supported, and opportunities for postgraduate study exist. Our established appraisal system facilitates career development and progression.

It is essential this role can participate in 7 days working and evening on calls.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality physiotherapy management to patients at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust within respiratory physiotherapy including critical care, medicine, and surgery. Lead the day to day respiratory physiotherapy service and to train rotational physiotherapy staff to the required level of out of hour's respiratory competency

To perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes.

The post holder will participate within the respiratory out of hour's service, which forms part of the post's contracted hours in a 5/7 day working service.Those staff joining the out of hour's rota will do so once they have completed the relevant induction and achieved the required competencies. The post holder will contribute towards the development, training and management of staff on the out of hours rotas.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

Degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy State registration with the Health and Care Professions Council Evidence of post-graduate specialist respiratory training by attendance at specialist short courses/conferences

Desirable

Management skills, project development or leadership training Membership of ACPRC, ICS, ESICM, BTS

Experience

Essential

Significant relevant, recent clinical experience in respiratory/surgical Physiotherapy at Band 6 level Recent, relevant work in an NHS environment Significant experience of working as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team and inter-agency working Experience of multidisciplinary goal planning, development of care pathways and using outcome measures

Desirable

Previous Band 7 experience in relevant post Leadership of a physiotherapy team Experience of using clinical governance framework to monitor and improve quality of patient care Clinical research experience

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential

Advanced knowledge of assessment and treatment approaches for the effective management of patients post operatively Advanced clinical reasoning and problem solving skills Knowledge of the influence of psychosocial and cultural factors health/illness behaviours Ability to remain updated with professional practice and research and integrate this into daily patient management Understanding of clinical governance and the implications for physiotherapy services including experience of quality issues and audit Ability to lead, motivate and inspire others Competent IT skills
