High Wycombe, United Kingdom Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Full time

We are looking to recruit a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team in Buckinghamshire. This is a full time position and will involve working across the inpatient stroke pathway.

The successful applicant will work alongside our qualified speech and language therapists to support people with communication and swallowing difficulties following a stroke. The post-holder will be required to work either on the stroke wards at Wycombe hospital or the neurological rehabilitation unit in Amersham hospital. The post will involve directly working with patients on the wards and their families, as well as supporting the SLT team with administrative tasks and training.

You must have excellent communication skills and be able to engage with patients and their families. This post would suit someone who is looking to gain experience of speech and language therapy in a hospital setting as well as anyone considering a career as an allied health professional. Previous experience as a healthcare assistant or academic study in a relevant healthcare field is essential.

You will be joining a friendly and supportive speech and language therapy team, who will provide all the training you require to thrive in this post.

You will work under the guidance of a qualified speech and language therapist to screen need, and provide tailored therapy, for people with communication and swallowing difficulties.

You will assist with the development of therapy resources as well as with paperwork related to admission, discharge and audit.

You will need to have excellent organisation skills, be able to manage and prioritise your own workload and to work well in a team.

The post holder will be a valued member of the speech and language therapy department, and fully supported to develop their skills for working with adults predominantly with a stroke diagnosis.
