**Job Description**:
**Please note working hours are Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm.**

**Occasional Saturday work may be required.**
- To receive blood samples.
- Sort and identify specimens received.
- Register patient details and tests required on the laboratory computer.
- Prepare samples where appropriate for analysis.
- Work within the departmental good laboratory practice, health and safety policy and code of conduct and maintain health and safety standards.
- Maintain laboratory and ensure workbenches are clean and tidy.
- Safely handle and dispose of blood, urine or other body tissues or hazardous chemicals.
- Prepare referral samples for external laboratory analysis.
- Enter test results on the laboratory computer system and preparation of samples for analysis under supervision of the BMS(s).
- Use and operate equipment such as centrifuges, automated equipment, pipettes and computer terminals in accordance to the laboratory SOPs.
- Unpack and prepare reagents in accordance to the SOPs.
- Perform all work within guidelines in SOP’s and Health and Safety manual
- Complete studies as directed by the BMS(s).
- Deal with telephone enquires internally.
- Clean and sterilise laboratory, equipment, shelves, bench tops and sinks.
- Check stock levels of reagents /equipment/ consumables and make sure stock is ordered when they are getting low.

**Qualifications**:

- Numerate, literate with good command of spoken and written English
- Knowledge of Microsoft office and good keyboard skills
- Able to communicate and work within a team.
- Good timekeeping and attendance record
- Ability to work without close supervision.
- Attention to detail skills.
- Ability to follow procedures.
- Ability to work to deadlines.
