Care Assistant

**Purpose of Position**:
1. To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of residents in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence.
2. To help in the care of the residents physical environment.
3. To show empathy and understanding towards all residents.
**Job Duties & Responsibilities**:
1. To undertake personal care duties as required for service users including toileting, washing, feeding, moving and handling. This will include preparing residents for bed and assisting them in the morning.
2. To support service users in a way that maintains dignity and privacy, choice and independence.
3. To participate in record keeping, through brief written recording on individual case files. This will include basic care planning, reviews and reports.
4. To participate in organised activities, to meet service users needs; this will include excursions from the establishment, some basic food preparation and domestic tasks; one to one activities and group sessions. Some of these activities will take place in the evening
5. To act as a keyworker which will include activities and liasing with the residents representative/s.
6. To participate in training and attend staff meetings as and when required.
7. To comply with health & safety requirements in respect of moving and handling and use of protective equipment to aid infection control.
8. General house keeping duties such as tidying rooms, launder/ iron clothing.
9. Answer call bells, the door and the telephone and greet visitors.
10. Prepare, serve breakfasts or prepare breakfast trays depending on residents preferred breakfast time. Preparing and serving early morning tea.
11. Dispense and administer medication.
12. Assist residents who need help, re-assurance, comfort or just a cup of tea.
13. Carry out regular checks on the building with special reference to fire prevention and security.
14.To undertake any other duties that maybe required.
**Knowledge and Skills**
- You have a duty to ensure that your personal skills, training and knowledge is up to date and relevant. Fidelia Care will support and assist you in achieving this. This training and development will include both mandatory and extra-curricular training and some will be in your own time and during the day.
- Understanding of physical, personal and mental health needs.
- Ability to follow care plans and instructions.
- Good communication skills both written and verbal.
- To attend all mandatory training as required.
Pay: From £11.60 per hour
Expected hours: 33.75 per week
