First Step is the IAPT service within South Cumbria. First Step is an exciting and dynamic service within which to work and is popular with both South Cumbrian GPs and also the wider South Cumbria community. The post is based in the South Lakes Team, Kendal.
First Step is dedicated to the delivery of evidence-based therapies for individuals with common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety disorders in line with best practice and clinical guidelines. The service is comprised of PWPs, High Intensity Practitioners, Counsellors, Senior Psychotherapist, Employment Advisors, administrative hub, a screening and assessment team and Team Leaders. All of these work together to ensure that we provide effective and compassionate interventions as rapidly as possible to our patients.
We believe strongly in the ethos behind the IAPT programme. We have a high recovery rate and this is due to the quality of staff, a strong supervision structure and a high quality on-going training programme for each stream.
As a High Intensity Practitioner you will assess and support individuals of over the age of 18 and from various cultural backgrounds who are experiencing mental health conditions (depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, Trauma and phobias) using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) interventions.
You will manage a caseload and will be requires to work closely with other healthcare professionals and signpost clients when necessary.
Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.
The Trust also provides a range of physical health and well-being services in the community alongside a range of partners in the Lancashire, Cumbria and Sefton area.
