**Job description**:
This role sits within the National Security Division (NSD) which is part of the Transport Security Directorate (TSD). The NSD’s purpose is to mitigate current and emerging national security threats to the transport sector both domestically and internationally.

Our work continues to scope out threats to the UK’s economy and ways to increase resilience.

We are looking for a Policy Advisor to work on the Department’s approach to key threats, with particular focus on economic security and supporting the Department’s work under the National Security & Investments Act 2021 (NSIA). This will involve representing the Department’s interests across Whitehall, as well as contributing to briefings for senior officials on transport-related Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) cases.

**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:

- Carry out Foreign Direct Investment casework and work with peers across His Majesty Government (HMG) to shape the team’s response to NSIA work.
- Provide input to policy development work on economic security, state threats and threats to critical national infrastructure.
- Work with peers across government to shape how we do economic security work and build and develop connections within DfT to implement legal requirements.
- Communicate across DfT and TSD to upskill and raise awareness of economic security work; to include drafting monthly FDI case updates and market monitoring news.
- You will be required to participate in the Department’s response to a security or civil contingencies incident.

**Person specification**:
To thrive in this role, you will:

- Have excellent written skills and the ability to distil complex information.
- Experience of analysing a wide range of data across different fields and using this to make decisions.
- Experience of communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent drafting skills - being able to draw out key information from multiple sources and using this to present clear observations, often for a senior audience.

A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.

This may include out of hours working on occasion, but we make every effort to allow for your personal circumstances.

There will be occasional travel required with this role as and when required.
