Startup Coalition(formerly Coadec) is an independent advocacy group that serves as thepolicy voice for technology-led startups and scaleups in the UK.Startup Coalition was founded by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs, andfights for a policy environment that enables early-stage British techcompanies to grow, scale and compete globally. We’ve delivered withsuccesses from the design and establishment of the Future Fund andScaleup Visa to the SEIS expansion and the bailout of SVB UK.

The Role

We’re looking for someone to leadour work on access to capital, investment and tax for startups andinvestors in the UK as well as potentially overseeing other areas ofour work depending on your experience. You’ll be blending greatresearch and policy work with top stakeholder management. You’ll bethe subject matter expert at Startup Coalition for a key pillar of ourwork reporting to our Deputy Policy Director. 

Success lookslike the delivery of compelling campaigns backed by evidence andstories from the startup ecosystem, as well as building our base ofsupport for the programmes you’re responsible for and - more thananything - securing the policy changes that deliver for startups. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading our policy work on access to finance forstartups. You’ll be delivering on a range of policy work acrossthe breadth of critical issues related to the venture capital market,institutional capital allocation, R&D tax credits, investmentincentives and more. We need someone who can think about, develop andproduce startup-friendly policy in an informal and engaging way thatentrepreneurs, investors, politicians, journalists and policy expertscan all relate to. 
  • Ensuring our voice is heard. Our work only has impact if it’s listened to and delivered. This meansdirectly engaging policy stakeholders, making sure that all relevantGovernment and regulatory consultations are responded to, that StartupCoalition is featured in relevant press, and that we are representedat conferences and events.
  • Managing relationships withour Investor stakeholders. Investors are a key part of our work,and the Head of Economic Policy will support the executive team inbuilding relationships with investors, delivering policy insight andsupport, and interacting with investor portfolios. This will alsoinvolve event and project management.
  • Chipping in oneverything else. We run a small operation, so everyone workstogether to deliver great policy work that helps achieve a policyenvironment that enables tech startups and scaleups to grow and scaleeffectively.
