Payroll Assistant

**Your new role**:
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Payroll Officer to join an outstanding organisation in Durham. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for the effective payroll administration and advice service across the organisation, in accordancewith agreed policies and procedures.
**Duties and responsibilities**:
- Ensuring that all staff are remunerated in accordance with their work contracts.
- Process all changes to payroll records as received from HR source data.
- Ensure full compliance with all statutory payments, deadlines and administrative submissions.
- Maintain the payroll system with up-to-date legislative changes and software updates, as directed by line manager.
- Work closely and cooperate with the HR department to continuously improve processes and information flows.
- Review current payroll processes and make proposals to management for improvements.
- Liaise with and provide salary information to managers and employees as requested.
- Provide an efficient and effective end-to-end payroll service in relation to the lifecycle of an employee, including creation/checking of new employees, variations to contract, payments, deductions and terminations.
- Process time sheets, P45's, Attachment of earnings and other additional financial amendments to the payroll records.
- Process all changes due to sickness and parental leave.
- Administer and submit contributions for multiple pension providers.
**You will be/have**:
- Relevant payroll qualification, or the ability to demonstrate appropriate skills and knowledge.
- Sound knowledge of payroll legislation relating to payroll services, including HMRC requirements with regards to tax, national insurance, apprenticeship levy, RTI, auto enrolment, PAYE, off payroll working IR35.
- A working knowledge of the Local Government Pension Scheme, Teachers Pensions Scheme, NHS Pension Scheme.
- Sound knowledge of computerised payroll and accounting systems.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a similar busy payroll environment.
- Experience of payroll and pension year end processes.
- Sound knowledge of payroll legislation.
- Advanced Excel skills.
