Clinical Fellow in Oncology

The post is suitable for doctors contemplating a career in Clinical or Medical Oncology, and will provide experience in a wide range of malignancies and in the management of oncology in-patients, out-patients and acute oncology service.
The post holder will be supported by and work in conjunction with the Consultants, working alongside Registrars, Specialty Doctors and the junior medical and nursing teams. There is no on-call commitment.
There will be an opportunity to participate in departmental teaching and audit sessions. There is also the possibility to participate in national audits if interested within each specialty
This is an exciting opportunity to join an established oncology team, with the additional opportunity of pursuing a fully-funded and clinically supervised Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education, Medical Leadership or Cancer Studies. This post is particularly suitable for doctors contemplating a career in oncology, and will provide experience in a wide range of malignancies and in the management of oncology in-patients and out-patients.
The post holder will be supported by and work in conjunction with the Consultants in medical and clinical oncology. The post holder will also work alongside the oncology registrars, a Specialty Doctors, junior medical team and nursing teams. There is no on-call commitment.

The duties will involve the day-to-day care and management of in-patients with solid tumours undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. This will include the management of general medical and/or oncological problems, and will necessitate a sound understanding of social care and palliative care in addition to general medicine.
The post-holder will provide triage and emergency care to patients with complications of their cancer or cancer treatment. This care includes admission of patients, with appropriate assessment, organisation of routine and specialist investigations and the instigation of treatment. The post-holder will provide support to the Acute Oncology Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
The post-holder will be expected to undertake out-patient and chemotherapy clinics, under the supervision of a consultant oncologist. The post-holder will be expected to gain chemotherapy prescribing competencies via the Chemotherapy Passport, and will then be able to prescribe chemotherapy, using the electronic prescribing system Chemocare, according to competencies gained.
There will be opportunities for the post-holder to attend weekly multi-disciplinary meetings (MDTs).
