Oxford, United Kingdom Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Clinical Haematology in Oxford is entering an exciting new phase with an expansion of clinical services, a new clinical trial research framework and the implementation of an Advanced Cellular Therapy service (incl. CAR-T).

An opportunity has arisen to appoint a 1.0 WTE NHS Consultant to support, deliver and develop the Advanced Cellular Therapies service as part of the Oxford Clinical Haematology Department based at the Churchill Hospital. This post supports the delivery of high-quality diagnostics and therapeutics for patients requiring Advanced Cellular Therapies. This post forms part of an established multidisciplinary team of clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, other allied health professionals providing, transplantation, cellular therapy, a broad range of clinical trials for Oxfordshire and tertiary services to patients living in Thames Valley.

The Advanced Cellular Therapies (ACT) service sits within the Clinical Haematology Department, part of the Oncology, Haematology and Palliative care Directorate, Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust (OUHFT); a service which has an international reputation as a centre-of-excellence for the clinical care. The ACT service will join a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurse specialists, pharmacists and other health care professionals who together have made major innovations to develop the service provided for haematology patients, including introduction of nurse-led telephone-based clinics, nurse-led prescribing, new diagnostic/monitoring investigations, introduction of novel therapeutics and advanced clinical trial activity.

The post-holder will lead the Advanced Cellular Therapy service, contributing to the development and delivery of both the inpatient and outpatient service. They will work with Consultant Haematologists and the wider clinical team to deliver NHS-commissioned advanced cellular therapies (for example, chimeric antigen receptor T cells). A critical component of this role is to lead the process for ongoing training and education of staff. They will also be expected to develop a leading portfolio of ACT clinical trials to ensure equal access to new therapies for patients within the catchment area.

The Trust comprises of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

**COVID-19**: The COVID-19 vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course our patients from the virus when working in our healthcare settings. Whilst COVID-19 vaccination is not a condition of employment, we do encourage our staff to get vaccinated. If you are unvaccinated there is helpful advice and information at Oxfordshire County Council Website where you can also find out more about how to access vaccination.

The post-holder’s duties will be primarily at Churchill Hospital, in Oxford and at the Horton Hospital in Banbury, but it is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust’s locations or outreach district general hospital clinics, including the Great Western Hospital Swindon, Stoke Mandeville, Aylesbury and Milton Keynes. Each 4-hour clinic has 2 new and 7 follow up patients; for a 42-week year, this post holder is likely to see 250 - 300 new patients.
