About the Company Oxford StemTech is a dynamic and innovation-driven biotechnology company with expertise in cellular reprogramming and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technologies. StemTech founders have developed a novel method of generating high quality iPSC lines from patient’s blood or skin samples, at scale and faster than traditional methods. At StemTech, we empower scientists and clinicians by providing them tools that enable them to get closer to derive personalized medicine.

We are seeking a motivated candidate for the Scientist I position, to work in the rapidly growing iPSC-Drug Discovery team, responsible for in vitro disease modelling and designing cell-based assays using iPSC-derived cell types, such as neurons and glia. It is a one year fixed-term position with a 3- month probation period. The candidate will work closely with and report directly to the Chief Scientific Officer and the Director.

Duties and Key Responsibilities

• Differentiation of human iPSC towards disease-relevant cell types for neuroscience drug discovery.

• Perform thorough characterization of differentiated cells, employing molecular, cellular, and functional assays to ensure the quality and consistency of the cellular models.

• In Vitro Disease Modelling: Design and develop in vitro disease models that accurately recapitulate relevant phenotype, enabling reliable assessment of drug effects.

• Drug Screening Assays: Implement and design drug screening assays on the disease models, evaluating candidate compounds for their efficacy as requested by the client.

• Thorough analysis and interpretation of experimental results.

• Collaborative Research: Collaborate with other team members to foster an innovative research environment.

• Equipment and Lab Management: Maintain lab equipment, ensure laboratory safety protocols are followed, and assist in the training of new lab members.

• Stay Current with Research: Keep abreast of the latest advancements and scientific literature in the field of iPSC differentiation, neuroscience, and drug discovery to inform and enhance research strategies.

Required qualifications and experience

• Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Cell Biology, Bioengineering, or related fields with a focus on stem cell research and differentiation techniques.

• Proven expertise in iPSC differentiation protocols to generate neurons and microglia, as well as in vitro disease modelling techniques.

• Strong background in cellular and molecular biology techniques, including immunostaining, qPCR, flow cytometry, and functional assays such as calcium imaging, electrophysiology, working with multi-electrode array.

• Experience in drug screening and assay development for assessing drug effects is highly desirable.

• Proficient in data analysis using relevant software and statistical tools.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to work collaboratively in a research team.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently, troubleshoot experiments, and show a high level of scientific rigor.

• Prior experience in publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals is a plus. Renumeration and Benefits
