Oxford Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Nucleome Full time

The Schrodinger Building, Oxford Science Park , Oxford
HOURS: Full-time
CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent
NUCLEOME THERAPEUTICS , a fast-emerging biopharma that is decoding the dark matter of the human genome for precision medicine. The dark genome holds more than 90% of disease-linked genetic variants whose value remains untapped, representing a significant opportunity for drug discovery and development. Our cell type-specific platform creates high resolution 3D genome structure maps and enables variant functional validation at scale in primary cell types. Nucleome Therapeutics was founded by leading experts in gene regulation from the University of Oxford and backed by investment from Oxford Sciences Enterprises.
At Nucleome Therapeutics, we are building a passionate, creative and dedicated multi-disciplinary team of scientists on a mission to decode the dark genome to bring precision medicine to patients. We are building a rewarding and fun environment where people embrace creative ways of thinking, take smart risks, and feel empowered to make a difference. We are seeking a Senior Scientist with expertise in Genomics who is a self-starter, proactive and would like to work in a dynamic environment of a start-up. The successful candidate will investigate the regulation of the non-coding genome in lymphocyte subsets (initially) using state of the art genomics approaches whilst also developing new ones. You will collaborate closely with other experimental and data scientists to guide drug target discovery efforts through interpretation of the Dark Genome’s genetics. As an independent thinker you will plan and implement experiments, interpret the data, and distil complexity into concise communication, while providing scientific coaching and mentorship for less experienced team members. PhD in biological discipline, or MSc and demonstrable experience in the fields above.
Experience and proven-track record in interpreting and generating insights from omics data
Demonstrable technical expertise in basic molecular biology techniques.
Familiarity with web-based interfaces for genome analysis.
An enthusiasm for and demonstrable knowledge of the key questions and recent developments in gene regulation, epigenetics and the genomics field.
Ability to design research project plans including short-term and long-term experimental plans, needs assessment, prioritise follow-up studies (timelines, costs, deliverables).
Ability to design and run high-quality experiments, interpret data, troubleshoot, and suggest next steps and identify alternative approaches.
Ability to develop and improve new skills and knowledge necessary to successfully support assigned projects
Flexible and co-operative approach to colleagues.
ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, as well as ability to prioritise and balance competing demands.
Ability to deliver high-quality, consistent results in a timely fashion.
Experience in pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
Expertise in disease biology, ideally autoimmune or other immunology-based diseases
Proficiency in working in a UNIX based computational environmental.
Ability and willingness to manage people and projects.
At Nucleome Therapeutics equality, diversity and inclusion is really important to us. We welcome applications from all candidates irrespective of age, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief, or marital or civil partnership status.
