We’re pushing to make habitats for nature bigger, better, and more joined up and are aiming to be carbon net zero by 2030; driving positive change for wildlife and the benefits it brings people at pace.

If you have experience in delivering great outcomes for nature, climate, and people we have a great opportunity for you to join our team as the Lead Nature Conservation Advisor for Shropshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Herefordshire, and Birmingham.

This is a senior role where you'll be instrumental in leading our work to restore and create nature rich, healthy and climate resilient landscapes.

What it's like to work here:You’ll be part of Midlands and East of England Consultancy Team: a multidisciplinary team of experts, from climate and farming advisors to project managers and archaeologists, who provide specialist consultancy advice to the places we care for, to help make things happen.

Your contractual location will be the National Trust office at Attingham, but our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40-60% of your working week.

Reporting to the Land and Nature Consultancy Manager, you’ll line manage an Assistant Nature Conservation Adviser to support you across the region.

What you'll be doing:As a key member of our Land and Nature team, you’ll bring innovative and creative thinking, helping us to realise opportunities to restore and create habitats and enable species to thrive. You’ll help us to deliver our ambition to be net carbon zero by 2030 through sequestration and the delivery of our tree planting and establishment ambition.

You’ll be working with our countryside teams and internal professional experts, as part of a wider multi-disciplinary consultancy team which shares a clear focus and commitment to delivering nature conservation and climate action.

You’ll provide first rate advice, guidance, and support to properties on nature conservation and restoration including species, habitats, earth science features, ecosystems services and management in both the countryside and built environment.

You’ll work beyond our boundaries, collaborating with neighbouring landowners and stakeholders to deliver landscape-scale nature recovery projects.

Who we're looking forTo deliver this role successfully, you'll need:

- a professional ecologist with substantial nature conservation knowledge including external issues, legislation, policy, practice, instructions, and guidance
- experience in designing and delivering nature recovery projects, caring for protected sites, and advising on habitats and species management
- proven ability to lead through others, through challenge and support to advocate for land use change
- a good understanding of wider conservation assets and priorities
- a skilled communicator, who can build strong relationships within diverse teams, both internally and externally
- a flexible thinker and problem-solver, skilled at negotiating and building productive networks, and confident in using your expertise to influence decisions
- proactive and organised, with experience of managing projects and a talent for multi-tasking and getting things done, strongly focused on detail, quality, cost, and time
- lead for inclusion and always think ‘everyone welcome'

The packageThe National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong.
