**Planning Officer**

**Salary: £25,000 - £29,000**

**Hybrid Working**

We are responsible for managing and maintaining one of the largest highway networks in the country: 5,000 miles of roads and around 5,000 miles of footways.

This role is to help deliver road maintenance, street lighting, drainage and flooding, winter travel, road safety, traffic management, highway development, bridges and structures, grass and vegetation, bus stops and bus shelters, public rights of way and roads strategies for users of our Highways. The role will include all aspects of Public Path Order Casework, including attendance at public inquiries. Assessment of Planning Applications for Public Rights of Way, using the Definitive Map of Public Rights of Way. Responding to enquiries from Solicitors, developers, land agents and the public relating to Definitive Map.

**Key Responsibilities of this role include**:

- Representing the County Council as an expert PROW witness at Public Inquiries and Hearings. Some liaison with key stakeholders and members of the public, including site work will be required.
- Recover associated costs for Public Path Orders and ensure accurate records of fees are maintained in a database.
- Contribute to updating and enhancement of the Definitive Map and associated databases, to prepare for publication and provide support to the wider PROW team with regards provision of background information as required.
- A full UK driving license
- Strong Numerical and English skills
- Excellent people skills as you will regularly be liaising with our stakeholders.
- Accuracy, precision and attention to detail as your analytical skills will be tested.
- Working within a government environment would be desirable.
- Knowledge of GIS systems would be desirable.
