The Defence Afghan Relocation and Resettlement Directorate (DARR) was established in 2021 to enable eligible Afghans who supported the UK mission in Afghanistan over the past 20 years to come to the UK under the Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy (ARAP) scheme, and once here to be assisted to begin their new lives with their families. It is important and rewarding work, supporting one of Defence’s highest priorities and with regular engagement from the Secretary of State, the Minister for the Armed Forces, the Ministry for Defence People, Veterans and Service Families, and the Minister for Defence Procurement. To date, over 12,000 Afghans have been relocated to and resettled in the UK under the ARAP scheme. However, we estimate that there are approximately 4,300 Afghans still to relocate, and many of the 12,000 already here are not yet settled in permanent housing.

**Job description**

Based within the Defence Afghanistan Relocation and Resettlement directorate, the legal policy team manage all legal cases against the MOD relating to ARAP and work both internally within the Directorate, to update seniors and check the progress of cases; and externally with MOD legal advisers and the Government Legal Department, as well as working closely with Home Office and FCDO who are both closely involved in ARAP work and ongoing legal cases.

**You’ll have**:

- Previous experience in a policy role at EO, HEO, SEO or G7 level.
- Active SC Clearance.
- Experience working on legal issue is desirable.
- Previous public sector/defence experience is desirable.
