The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is a central government department with a mission to protect our country and provide the ultimate guarantee of its security and independence, as well as helping to protect its values and interests abroad.

**As a Policy Support, your main responsibilities will be to**:

- Liaise with the MOD legal advisor team on litigation cases.
- Work closely with the Government Legal Department to provide policy input to live legal cases and manage risks arising from Judicial Reviews that the MOD is exposed to.
- Engage with the rest of the legal policy team, the Senior Leadership team in the DARR, including the relevant Deputy-Directors, so they are aware of issues and can provide senior input to decision-making.
- Identify pertinent information from case working and eligibility files to clearly articulate how and why decisions were made regarding an applicant’s case and across wider cohorts.
- Ensure good information management practices, to help prepare for legal cases.
- Liaise with cross-government representatives on ARAP and resettlement legal issues, including FCDO and Home Office.
- Ensure coherence of outputs with Policy, Casework and Secretariat teams.
- Keep track of key deadlines as part of a busy portfolio and prioritising within this, to ensure MOD equities are protected.
- Act on behalf of C1 legal policy when required.

**Essential**:

- **SC Clearance in place**:

- Strong communication skills and ability to build good working relationships.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks at once and being reliable in follow these through to conclusion.
- Good drafting skills - which the role will help improve - and close attention to detail.
- Ability to work as part of a team

**Desirable**:

- Legal experience/policy experience
- Previous experience in drafting formal correspondence e.g. Ministerial correspondence or other responses as part of a secretariat.
- Working on legal issues
