The MedTech Directorate adopts a system-wide approach to ensure that the health and care system has a resilient supply chain of safe and high-quality products, gets value for money, embeds sustainability, drives innovation, and promotes UK interests in global markets. It also oversees the regulation of medical devices.

**Job description**:
The Senior Executive Officer will advise on medtech in the community which sits within the Medtech Directorate’s strategy and policy team. The role directly relates to Part IX of the drug tariff. Appliances prescribed in primary care account for over £1 billion of annual NHS spend and are an important pathway to ensure equity of access to products for patients. In this role, the post holder will have the opportunity to influence policy positions within a key market of the life sciences sector and ensure equitable access to products for all patients across England.

Medtech is a secretary of state priority and medtech in the community is a key priority for implementation of the medtech strategy. Within the role, the post holder will be involved with a consultation on proposed changes to Part IX of the Drug Tariff and will work closely with stakeholders including NHS BSA, NHS England, industry, clinicians and patient groups on the Drug Tariff and ongoing policy development.

**Person specification**:
The post holder will have a significant role to deliver and influence a number of critical strands of work of medtech in the community, including:

- Analysing responses to a consultation on changes to the way medical devices are prescribed in the community and responding with a report.
- Develop a communications plan to engage key stakeholders on delivering changes following the consultation.
- Implement changes following consultation and confirmation of policy changes.
- Develop and maintain working relationships to progress policy development working closely with relevant patient groups, industry and health system stakeholders to project manage and build an in-depth understanding of key issues across medtech in the community to drive improvements for the NHS.

**Key skills and experience required for the role**
- Ability to quickly develop an understanding of new policy areas. This includes the ability to quickly grasp issues and communicate them clearly and concisely via different communication channels including presentations and briefings.
- Proven experience of scoping, designing and drafting policy documents and advising on policy options, including researching and interpreting information from a range of complex sources to form well-considered, logical opinions.
- Able to evidence that they have managed relationships with a range of stakeholders, ideally both internally and externally.
- Well evidenced project delivery, programme and project management skills to plan and prioritise to meet deadlines, remaining calm to deliver results at pace.
