**Job Title**: Senior Vetting Officer

**Salary**: £32,194 to £34,452 plus a location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £32,194 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £34,452 will be via incremental progression.

The purpose of the role is to safeguard the people and infrastructure of the Metropolitan Police Service (Met) through effective security vetting.

The vetting unit is a naturally fast-paced and dynamic environment where no two days are the same. You do not need any previous experience, instead we're looking for flexible, motivated people with common sense and strong work ethics, who can remain calm under pressure, with attention to detail and good communication skills.

Full training will be given to ensure Senior Vetting Officers are multi skilled and in a position to provide expert knowledge to be able to carry out vetting with confidence. The most important attribute is that you want to make a difference to the communities of London and support Front Line policing.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators.
- Conduct vetting checks for Officers and Staff researching the applicant’s professional and private life, financial affairs, associations, and employment history.
- Conduct vetting checks for contractors, subcontractors and agency staff engaged by the Met and to advise on the suitability for employment.
- Make decisions on whether to grant or refuse vetting clearance based on review of the checks and recommendations of the Vetting Officer and ensure decisions made in accordance with the National Decision Model following principals outlined in the Vetting Code of Practice APP Vetting.
- Maintain, update and archive documents/files to ensure that the system is accurate.
- Identify, investigate, and assess any matter relating to the applicant’s suitability for employment which may be a potential threat to security. Make decisions on the information found whether further research is required and provide a report regarding concerns.
- Take prompt and decisive action in relation to problems encountered in the vetting process. Able to prioritise own work according to targets set within the unit.
- Conduct vetting interviews when necessary to ascertain and identify any risks brought up during vetting check.
- Refer vetting failures to the Force Vetting Manager for consideration with accompanying report detailing rationale for failure.
- Attend and represent the Met Vetting Unit at meetings / panels held within the organisation where necessary.
- Attend and represent the Met Vetting Unit at meeting to review and update vetting policies held on a national level / with other forces, willingness to travel where necessary.
- Liaise with internal and external key stakeholders.
- Liaise with other police forces, vetting units or external agencies on vetting procedures and specific cases providing information on complaints history where appropriate.
- Drive continuous improvement in the pursuit of service excellence.

**Vetting**

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required.

Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) **OR** Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.
