York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a comprehensive range of acute hospital and specialist healthcare services for approximately 800,000 people living in and around York, North Yorkshire, North East Yorkshire and Ryedale, an area covering 3,400 square miles. With an annual turnover of over £700m, our workforce of around 9,000 staff deliver care in community settings as well as across our eight hospital sites. We are proud to be a partner with the Hull York Medical School in providing clinical placements and training for future doctors at Scarborough and York Hospitals. This opportunity comes at a time of significant change in the NHS and social care landscape with the pandemic further highlighting the inequalities we need to address in our society and increasing demand for our services. We are seeking a collaborative and strategic Chair to lead, support and challenge our Board and our Council of Governors in delivering our vision; **_to be collaborative leaders in a system that provides great care to our communities_**, helping people to live longer and more healthily in the community. We operate within a complex stakeholder environment and our Chair will quickly gain credibility and build trusted relationships with our service users, carers, staff, Governors and our partners within the wider system at both regional and ‘place’ based levels.

Values-driven, inspiring and influential, you will bring a broad range of leadership experience and successful track record of leading complex, transformational change working in partnership across organisational boundaries. NHS experience is not essential; however, you will bring relevant experience that you can translate to our environment and demonstrate the capacity to absorb and understand health and social care policy, stakeholders, and governance requirements including an appreciation of the risks we manage in our services. You will demonstrate sound judgement, political acumen, and strategic influence that will bring focus and a fresh perspective to our aims as a system partner within a significant public service organisation. You will be an exceptional communicator who can quickly build personal credibility, able to lead others to deliver our mission and vision.
