The Community Safety Unit, and the VSS Service, has benefited from significant recent investment. We are proud to offer a service which provides VSS functionality across three boroughs - Hammersmith and Fulham, Royal Borough Kensington and Chelsea as well as Westminster City Council - providing one of, if not the largest, VSS offerings.

Our shared infrastructure is one of the most extensive in the UK and is held in high regard for its performance in identifying and preventing crime across three boroughs.

You will work within the Community Safety Unit reporting to the VSS Supervisor. As VSS Operator you will be responsible for delivering a safer borough for our residents, businesses and visitors.

You will be required to monitor and review all cameras on our network. You will become knowledgeable in your borough ensuring that you know where all cameras are, what their taskings are and ensuring that tasking returns are made. You will be required to work with partners from within each local authority as well as colleagues in the Police and fire services amongst others. With an inquisitive mind you’ll be trained and tasked to identify, pursue and address crime and ASB in all its guises. Once experienced there is an established career pathway within the service where officers are supported and trained to take the next step.

Daily you’ll work across services and with a range of partners to deliver “business as usual” within the borough you are covering. You will work with the relevant VSS Senior Operator and/or Supervisor to ensure that work is delivered as required and always at the highest quality.
You will be required to work a shift pattern covering a 24/7, 365 rota for which you will receive the appropriate shift enhancement. **The rota will consist of a “four on four off” pattern comprising 12hr shifts, days and nights. **This post requires permanent office-based presence and is not suitable for home working.

You will need to obtain an SIA license as part of the conditions of employment for this role. If you do not already have an SIA license, we will train you - as holding a SIA license during probation is a pre-requisite to become a permanent employee.
